OK. Interesting. However, rethinking things, in his situation he'd likely be starting on 4 days rest instead of 6 if he started Thursday. Not ideal. I would not be comfortable with McKee starting today if we had to play.

Are you comfortable with McKee starting on Thursday? Look at the rising ERA especially with the two 101 pitch games.

I'm not and Hall's track record for pulling struggling pitchers isn't good. We are going to need a lot of runs whoever we play I think.

If Burress and company are hot at the plate, we will be fine.

We will know Thursday at about 3:05 if Mckee has his fastball location which will be big, but his stuff is legitimately nasty even without it. I thought him getting through the early trouble vs Duke and gutting his way to 5 innings was great for his mental game and think it may have been enough to turn a corner. Gonna need him, gotta ride with your dudes!

This is a fair point, but everyone without a bye is playing on short rest. At least it's equal.

Pitt is up 6-1 on L'Ville T4. Baseball makes no sense. I don't think GT really cares who wins but it is interesting that L'Ville as a program hasn't done as well recently. They were supposed to have stud pitching again this year like they usually do. Regardless, I'd like to see L'Ville lose.

Looks like they tried the save your pitchers move. Don't blame them because they have to play 2 before they even get to the double byes, but you don't even get to play game 2 if you don't win game 1, much less game 3 or 4.

Not necessarily. If you have a reliable midweek starter, it's the perfect time to use him on regular rest. If we had to play today, it would have been the perfect time for Chicoli, if he had not been used on Friday...

Then again, if you have a reliable midweek starter, you're probably not a 9 to 16 seed in the ACC tournament...

I hear you, and that makes sense. I guess I meant the parameters of the problem are the same for everyone playing on day 1. Teams have had all year to develop their pen. At some point you're making a value judgment of "my ace on less rest" vs "the guy we've been trying to develop" but that's why head coaches make the big bucks.

I imagine if we were looking at needing to win 5 in 6 days, we may have managed our staff differently vs Duke. Chicoli may not have been used in anticipation that we need as many starting arms as possible.

But I don't know that I can blame Miami for throwing their best arm. Especially in their position, I think you know you're playing with house money and just have to win today and live to fight tomorrow. They've been slumping.

GT did care because Lville was 2 more Q1 wins for us before this complete collapse to end the season. That could end up costing us a host depending on how the next few days shakes out.

Our RPI hasn't changed from 20 since Sunday, but I understand the Q1 nuance. I was thinking only RPI / ELO.

As we were ranked #16 before any games this week, it's been simple to me. We have to win tomorrow to assure staying at #16 or hope teams around us lose too.

Just a general observation:

If you love college baseball, today might be the best day of the year. Tournament ball from all over the country on TV, starting at 9 AM and going to midnight-ish. 👍
Good call! I still go with the Saturday after Memorial Day, i.e., the 1-0 games from the 16 regionals, but today is also cool.

But remember, that #16 ranking is from D1 Baseball. They have zero input into the real rankings. My rankings carry just as much weight, and I rank us around #13 or #14.

Cal up 2-0 early against Wake!

Lunceford not doing well. T2nd 0 outs man 1 & 3rd, wild pitch to advance runner to second. Harder DP. I hope Wake has SLOOOOOOW HOOK.

Update: Damnit, no slow hook. Pitcher change (to Ariola) with 0 outs and bases loaded. Very late for me, but love it for Cal. Burn them WF pitchers!! Sac but HBP reloads bases......... LFG.

Update update: 6-0 going to B2. NolanWarren has Cal with 90% chance to win; how long have we seen that??? Reliever Ariola had to throw 27 pitches, 6 batters to get 3 outs. And is still in? Burn them WF pitchers!

Wake pulls their starter with bases loaded nobody out already down 0-2 in T2. Win or lose, that’s likely good for us. Imagine they’ll have to burn some decent arms to stay in this game.
