At this point I don't really know what to expect. I think with Key you're always going to get a team that plays hard and represents. I'm just not sure about OL, DL, QB, and WR. That's a lot of '?'s.

Unless we have a bunch of injuries I think worst case is middle of the pack ACC and 6-6 type season.

If we can develop guys in the trenches and we have at least a decent QB and some decent WR I could see 8-4. If we got all conference play at QB and WR and the lines are both above avg for P-4 we could really cook.

Not going to hazard a prediction/expectation till after Spring.

9-3 regular season. I’m very optimistic that the team will be better we just need a QB that doesn’t beat us.

I think we have a chance at havgin a game changer at QB as well. Mendoza is very fast. our other QBS all have talent. A lot of people need to remember that JT had very limited experience as a freshman came in as a sophmore and did what he did. About like Mendoza.
JT only saw meaningful minutes at miami... which he left with an injury.

My current thoughts

CO - GT win
TN - this one is interesting. If Aquilar doesn't play I like GT, if he does then I give TN a small fav. For now I go GT.
Mercer - GT Win
@Stanford - I think this has all the looks of a trap game, cross country games have not been kind to the road team. Thinking loss here.
Duke - Key is 3-0 against Duke, that continues - GT win.
@VT - just the second road game of the season. I like the bad Tech in this one, GT loss.
BC - GT win
@Pitt - Basically they have a more proven QB then we do, I think GT underdog here, GT loss
L'ville - Brohm is one of the best coaches in college football. Hasn't won fewer than 9 games at L'ville. GT underdog, GT loss.
@Clemson - Not scared at all of this team, like GT in this one, GT win.
Wake - Dickert is a very good coach, but I like Key to go 3-0 against Wake in another really close game. GT Win
@UGA - the last 2 years were the time to beat UGA, don't like GT chances this year. GT loss.

Sort of sitting on 7-5 right now. I think GT splits TN/Stanford.
Also, with a less experienced QB and OL GT is likely to lose at least one game no one is expecting to lose.

I also believe GT will play hard every game. I also think with so much turnover in both players and coaches there are likely to be some cohesiveness issues at times and inconsistent play.
If Colorado could not beat us last year with three first half turnovers, then there is no hope for them. Tennessee always has lots of talent but they are kind of like North Carolina, lots of talent, little to show for it. If we win those two plus Mercer to go 3-0 to start the season whoa Nellie it could get interesting. After some thought I predicted 6-6 simply because the losses are daunting: best quarterback in a decade, best offensive lineman since Shaq Mason, two very good defensive tackles, a huge number of other players of varying quality leaving it could get sticky for a while. We will see.

Pick a thread, almost any thread, and it is clear that we will come pretty close to name calling and slandering each other’s character because ….
…….
(1) There is Virtually nothing new to talk about
(2) We are bored (3) We are frustrated that there’s nothing new to talk about (4) We are trying to create something to talk about
(5) We project any discontent about the general state of humanity on to each other.
Isn’t this du jour for our times?

We're basically replacing our entire production on both sides of the ball along with both coordinators. We upgraded our RB room. Everywhere else is a hope and prayer. The good news is we were .500 during the interim year and that was with Chip Long's offensive production. (Chip was hired on Key's recommendation, btw)

I don't see a reason to think we'll be more than a game on either side of .500

I would also include significant coaching turnover. However, this time of year I am the full optimist. So I take the opinion this is addition by subtraction until after game 3. aka we have much better talent and coaching skill compared to last year until proven otherwise

With Mendoza at qb and the 2 stud rbs we might have best rushing offense in country. Certainly the most explosive. The defense should be an attacking ball hawk fun to watch spectacle. Big risk big reward.
Gonna be the most exciting team in decades.
I voted 9-3 but could easily see better. We go undefeated into the Pitt game where Key will have to show he can coach us up over the hump finally. If so then I think we finally beat Louisville. Clemson we should beat. Wake is toast then the big game that we finally win ! Run game is gonna be too much.
Regardless , if Key wants to raise the level of this program we have to win no less than 9 games. No excuses.

Worse case 7-5
Best case 9-3
I’ll split the baby, 8-4
Wins over Colorado, Mercer, Hokies, Wake, Louisville, Duke, Stanford, BC
Losses to UGA, Vols, Pitt and Clemson

Agree to disagree. I just do not think our team will be all that great but then, its the ACC where sometimes the "Lake Woebegone" effect makes everyone just slightly above average.,

I don't believe you have ever said a positive thing about the team since you cane on the board so it's not hard to imagine you believe as such. Just typical hg doomposting

I’m just going to go out on a limb here and make an extremely tough assessment of this team. And, I hate to say it, but I’m pretty sure this year’s team is not solid enough to win a national championship. There now, I’ve said it.

They'll grow into it. Good thing we have a soft schedule to start the season. We did well with our OOC scheduling to help us slowly build up to our tougher matches. ;)

Got a break against TN. Aguilar denied another year by a judge in Knoxville--if you can believe that. At least they will not have a 6 year qb against us that led the SEC in yardage last year. Whoever it is will be a good athlete. They were not good on defense last year and like us trying to fix that this year.
