I propose that every school forces every player into the portal every year and then we have a draft/auction…maybe Hunger Games light (nobody gets hurt). Let’s make the offseason fun and the odds always in our favor!
Fantasy football - college edition?

The bagman system is what made this sport illegitimate. If you sit back and take off your fan goggles you’ll realize that everything the past 50 years is fake. Wins were bought. Titles were bought. Every GT loss to UGA was a fixed game. Miami’s dynasty was bought, FSU was bought. Herschel was bought. Switzer bought. Auburn bought. USC bought. Clemson bought. It’s all been fake. Sure, the outcomes of individual games were up for grabs but when you stab a team in the heart before the game starts the chances are they will lose. The entire history from the mid 60’s to today is garbage. And yet GT fans want to go back to that? i guess we like self harm syndrome around here.
It was fake before the 1960s as well.

KQ posted the breakdown of this. TLDR - He's being a drama queen

Last year, he was pissed that we signed TEs out of the portal as he wanted to be the featured TE. He's a decent passing threat, but he sucks at blocking. He also asked for more money and we obliged.

This year, he is pissed that we signed a TE out of the portal who has the same skillset he has, but is better and proven. He asked for more money, we told him to kick rocks.
From the sounds of it us fans should be happy these kids are leaving. If THIS is content of their character they do not deserve to wear a Tech uniform again.

My head is spinning. Someone wake me up please when all the transfer debits and credits have been determined. Thank you.

Yeap, I ask these folks to wake me when they know who I'm rooting for next year.

The ins and outs are too much to follow really.

I've been trying to find a nice, comfy hammock to ride out the offseason. Oh, here's one ...

Cap the amount boosters, and schools can pay players, and set a limit on how many times you can enter the portal.

Size matters. NIL is a basketball while bagmen were a golfball. What happened when booze was legalized...booze sales went from a golfball to a basketball in size (and I helped it's surge).

Yes, I would trade an imperfect system to this crap anytime. What's garbage is Texas Tech's story. Herschel's Transam cost less than 15k. Today he'd get millions. Now just wait until players become employees and don't have to go to class and/or online, and Colleges say we are outta here. Will you wish for the 60s then? Many many things have gotten better since the 60s....cFB isn't one of them.
The self harm you mention becomes complete destruction, if nothing is done to correct or at least improve what's going on now.

I may just not watch football next year

I’m not in some impulsive panic mode about losing talent (unlike some here), we get it back every year.

But I will say, the way I’ve lost basically all interest in a completely transfer Tech basketball team- it’s hard to keep wind in my sails about the half-Tech men that will come in to replace guys like Harpring.

A lot of my enthusiasm for the boys on the field is the idea that they’ve built a brotherhood and fight for eachother with some school pride.
Dudes that proudly wore and spoke of the Tech brand, like King and Jamal are unfortunately graduating and I fear they are the last of a dying breed.

Your only alternatives will be the NFL and it's Farm League (formerly known as the top half of the sec & B10).

I would rather not have seen this. I thought that Luke would stick with GT. Excerpt below.

A Marist School graduate and the son of Tech basketball legend Matt Harpring, Luke Harpring appeared in four games in 2024 and made three receptions for 43 yards. This season he totaled 239 offensive snaps over 13 games and, among tight ends, was Tech’s highest-graded offensive player, according to Pro Football Focus.

an agreement made on January 1st, you say?

Yeah… nobody is watching… don’t even need to bother with hiding impropriety.
Yep. A wise Tech fan once told me - and this was over 10 years ago before portals and what we have today... "the (football) factories run college football and the NCAA runs everything else". Nothing has changed and in fact over a decade later it is just more reinforced. The factories will break any rules to get an edge. Now, more "schools" are behaving like "factories" because the dam has broken wide open. Even if they all got together and did a mutual blood cut of their hands and shook on agreements to everyone abiding by currently non-existent "rules" that would have to be drafted, how long do you think after that the factories will break their so-called "agreements" with one another? 2 seconds? Maybe 1? I've been saying it for over 20 years...college football is really F'd up. And, it won't get any better.

I disagree, to a degree. If guys know they have to sit after transferring, these numbers would drop precipitously. Jmho but ... I know I'm right. :sneaky:
For those who transferred multiple times to different colleges, and found themselves on probation a couple of times, and took extra years to get a degree, the idea of sitting out a year to “preserve the contemporaneity of the degree” sounds just and reasonable. According to a friend.
