This one shocks me .. Dad played at Tech, From ATL. We have always run multiple TE and he would’ve gotten a lot of game time this year smh
KQ posted the breakdown of this. TLDR - He's being a drama queen

Last year, he was pissed that we signed TEs out of the portal as he wanted to be the featured TE. He's a decent passing threat, but he sucks at blocking. He also asked for more money and we obliged.

This year, he is pissed that we signed a TE out of the portal who has the same skillset he has, but is better and proven. He asked for more money, we told him to kick rocks.

Yeah, no. That won't work out too well.

We got several experienced WRs and TEs from the Portal the last 2 seasons. We are going to have to do that again.

Currently out of all the TEs and WRs we have on the roster or are coming in as Freshman we have 1 person with live games reps. One. And he was a Freshman this season. Jordan Allen.

This seems like really bad roster management. Sorry to sound too critical but hopefully we land some more help from the Portal. We need some game time experience.
Sorry...we just do not have much choice anymore...our team will be littered with freshman year after year...is what it is

NFL players can make as much on the side as they like with endorsements. NFL players have less ability to control where they will play early in their careers. They get drafted and negotiate a contract. They may get traded, but usually they will play out their contract.

Since kids will always be able to pick the school they want to play for the system needs to make it harder to move. In my mind this would mean contracts with buyout clauses. They would still be able to move, but at least the school holding the contract would have some restitution. You may have to pay more on the front side to get a kid to sign a 2, 3, or 4 year contract, but continuity may be worth the cost. Would the courts allow it...who knows?
It has to come to contracts of some sort. Too easy to jump with no consequences. At some point it will be so chaotic-we may be there now- that coaches and AD's will finally decide to do something. The fact that the SEC no longer can dominate college football, they may be willing to cooperate to fix some of this churn or push for regulation.
I am very disillusioned by how this has transformed into a huge money grab. This is not really college sports. I will be very selective where i donate in the future. CFB is a farce now.

The players choose to enter the portal. No one can "manage" that.

I agree, experience matters - but we're going to bring in replacements thru the portal - likely players with experience. We've done a great job of bringing in players from portal in the past and I don't see any reason to think that will change.
"The players choose to enter the portal. No one can "manage" that."

I understand this perfectly. All I am saying is that we have to bring in a few more TEs and WRs from the portal with experience.

All I am saying is that we need to add a few more WRs and TEs from the portal. We have done this the last couple of years and we need to do it again or else we will have a ton more inexperience than normal.

I disagree, to a degree. If guys know they have to sit after transferring, these numbers would drop precipitously. Jmho but ... I know I'm right. :sneaky:
Key himself said in an interview about a month ago that they were looking at this stuff months in advance...

I hope so because just glancing at our roster you see an abundance of inexperience on the WR and TE spots. Like more than normal.

I agree with your plan to bring back the mandatory sit out year, but until that happens I don't see any way to proactively manage your roster. You bring in a portal player, you risk pissing off your current guys. You don't bring a guy, you're too thin at a position. I wouldn't want my job to be tied to the whims of a 20 yr old kids that are chasing big money. It's brutal...

And of course you're right! When has the Get Bak coach ever been wrong? About anything???? Including BBQ sauce and cornbread! Only a heretic would suggest it!

The NCAA and schools really need to come together and collectively bargain with players to stem the incessant transferring and tampering.

Is he just getting bad advice? He still would've been MORE featured this year than last. We were graduating all the other TEs who played, of course we were going to portal someone in.

The biggest bummer to me about the wild west portal is it was already hard to build continuity with players having a max of 4 years to play, and most needing a year or two to be D-1 ready.
Spring training now is even more crucial to find the starters and build that chemistry among OL and QB and receivers. Secondary etc

I am WAY less worried about TE and WR than I am about DL and LB
I am worried about that too LOL

For me I am more concerned about the WRs and TEs room from a experience standpoint. From a bodies standpoint I am not worried about either. We will have bodies. But experience wise I am cringing.

Just something to think about. We return 1 or 2 WRs with game experience. Jordan Allen and maybe Debron Gatling. TEs only incoming of Corbo.

Assuming no one else transfers out...

On the DL you have Christian Garret, AJ Hoffler, Andre Fuller, Shymeik Jones, Landen Marshall, Amontrae Bradford, Brayden Manley, Jordan Boyd, and maybe a couple more that have had snaps but these above definitely have.

The only point I was trying to make is that experience in the TE and WR rooms are a bit of a concern to me based off the numbers as of right now.

Hopefully we land some stud DLs, TEs, and WRs and we are all happy ;)

The old rules will never return because the NCAA lost in court multiple times on various rules, including limits on transferring. We need collective bargaining and enforceable contracts.

Oh I think they understand perfectly...but it is just old boomer stuff. Most of them just do not care and are only focused on social media likes and money. We are not very far from transfers within the season
Us OFs have to face it: We were 2-2 with UGAg during my tenure at Ma Tech, and the series record was real close. It was a true back and forth. But that was now a stinking half century ago - darn I’m getting old. Looking back now, we were at the beginning of a downward slide and UGAg was about to sign Herschel.

It’s never been the same. Since my senior year (fall of ‘77, so approaching 50 years) we have won exactly 10 times. Had you told me that then, I would have laughed in your face.

While we’ve been competitive most of the time through the years, we have mostly become an annual W for them. The younger guys have no way of truly understanding what the rivalry once was. <Shrug>

The true fix for all of this nonsense is 2 year contracts that are actually contracts with buyouts. Then who gives a **** if people buy out our players and we make the money back we then spend it on other players and their buyouts. We are 2 years from this.
I estimate the Washington case is actually going to establish what a contract means.

Good. Last thing that he needs is more money. GTFO with that demand.
