I get some have a high opinion of their kids, but it wasn't like King was bad this year. He was a legit heisman candidate till the last few weeks of the regular season. And Philo was a RS Freshman and not a guy who was here for 3 years and falsely promised the gig or anything in 25.

So it goes. He's gone and it's water under the bridge.

And it's seeming more likely that the offensive swoon could've been manufactured by the OC pouting and sabotaging things.

Regardless of whether or not it has been confirmed the wildest thing about the whole messed up situation is that these players today don’t understand the tradition. They don’t truly understand what the “clean old fashion hate” really is. I know it is unrealistic to expect some of these guys to get it because they may have not been Tech fans their whole lives like a lot of us, but associating with the mutts in any way is a no no.

It is just lame that some of these guys would even consider transferring to the other team, much less actually doing it. So wild. It has been and always will be go jackets and THWG.
To hell with georgia ! Until they give you the bag

The off season, including recruiting season, used to be a relatively fun time of year. Your team is undefeated, one could speculate about whether graduating seniors would end up in the pros or coaching, developing players would be looked at for weight gains or increases in speed, new defensive formations might be discussed, the addition of a staff member, etc. It was all fun speculation, not unlike watching a professional baseball team in spring training.

This time is different. Any speculation is beyond useless because nothing stays pinned down. Hopes get dashed and fears don’t materialize. Because everything is subject to change. When some of our threads rattle on page after page I wonder if some people realize how pointless most of that is. It’s well beyond speculation and what if. It’s total hallucinations induced by unregulated capitalistic chaos. Any side benefit that might have been gained by greed is no longer apparent.

In short, any emotional ejaculations should probably be saved until after the first game of the season. I know this rationally but it’s really hard to let go of old habits.

I hate how it's all going down, but if I'm being honest, I don't blame them. Some of these kids and their family are being offered life changing money. To get $2-4+ million will set most of these kids and their family up for a long time. At minimum, they can probably live comfortably for the next decade and pay off debt to make life easier. Everyone's situation is different.

I blame it on the adults who kept kicking the can down the road until the can finally fell off a cliff. College sports is in the mess it's in because greedy adults didn't want SAs to get a piece of the pie, and now the kids are in a position of power and capitalizing on it to get as much pie as they can.

If it were my kids, and they were being offered the kind of life changing money being thrown at some of these players, it would be irresponsible of me to tell my kids to say "no" if the other school checked all the same boxes their current school did. One injury and it all can get taken away. Sure, they could join the workforce and hopefully make it all back at some point, but millions of dollars guaranteed is a heck of a nest egg and headstart for 99% of the kids in college. You can always go back to college, the opportunity to make multiple millions immediately is a once in a lifetime thing that very few even get a chance to accept.
Agreed. I hated UGA my whole life, but gave it serious thought to go there when I saw how much in scholarships they offered me. And those scholarships are peanuts compared to what Canion is probably getting…

Even if it was subconsciously done. Faulkner just wasn’t with it toward the end and it showed. It made everyone else’s job twice as hard.

I hate to say it, because I’ve been blasted over the years for saying it, but Tech has a unique eco system that is a little more fragile than most schools. Controversies, locker room tensions, abrupt coaching changes, seem to hit us much harder. Tech requires a total commitment physically, mentally, spiritually to be able to both weather the grind and compete at a championship level. And if anyone doesn’t like the word “fragile” in relationship to Tech, get over it. I mean this in the same sense as describing a high performance racing machine. Everything from track racing conditions, tire choice, to fuel mixture, engine timing, carburetor adjustments, everything, must be coordinated with utmost care to get maximum performance.

No one can keep up with this machine at maximum performance levels. But when someone is secretly dumping bags of sugar in the gas tank…

Oh I think they understand perfectly...but it is just old boomer stuff. Most of them just do not care and are only focused on social media likes and money. We are not very far from transfers within the season

King was the ACC player of the year and number 10 in the Heisman voting. A senior leader of the team. There was literally no way that Philo was going to play over him. Philo's multi-year opportunity was coming, and in the meantime he was getting paid. If reports are true that Philo and his family considered Key a snake for playing Haynes King, they are delusional and would have been a potential problem going forward. John is right, it's water under the bridge. We have no idea what the full story is, and our efforts are best spent looking toward the future and finding the next generation of Tech men.

That's actually sad, if true. As a parent, you're supposed to want your kid to play. But you also have to be mature and responsible about it.

Harboring these kinds of toxic feelings, and very likely conveying them to the kid, hurts him more than it helps.

Anyways, hope they enjoy Gainesville. We'll be just fine.
Yet, somehow, the less informed are screaming that Key is the one creating the "sometimes toxic culture". Sounds like he was trying to squash a potential toxic culture and cut out the poison. Guys like Bryce Koon really need to get better info before spouting half-truth stories or just stop covering trashing Tech on their podcasts and stick to who pays them the money. No sense going after Tech and Key when LSU can't even field an offense, much less figure out how to run a state university. If you want to talk about toxic, try starting in your own backyard with the people who write your checks.

I'm about done. This isn't anything against Georgia Tech. A lot of schools are having similar issues as us. It's just not as fun being a fan when you have constant roster turnover.

It's not even about wins and losses. We just had one of our better seasons. I'm just tired of having brand new team every year.
