Please please let that happen! They were NOTHING like today's madness.
The bagman system is what made this sport illegitimate. If you sit back and take off your fan goggles you’ll realize that everything the past 50 years is fake. Wins were bought. Titles were bought. Every GT loss to UGA was a fixed game. Miami’s dynasty was bought, FSU was bought. Herschel was bought. Switzer bought. Auburn bought. USC bought. Clemson bought. It’s all been fake. Sure, the outcomes of individual games were up for grabs but when you stab a team in the heart before the game starts the chances are they will lose. The entire history from the mid 60’s to today is garbage. And yet GT fans want to go back to that? i guess we like self harm syndrome around here.

Speaking of womens sports, can someone explain how Chit Chat Wright is a star at Iowa, Kara Dunn looks really good at USC, Dani Carnegie is doing well at UGA without the ball hogging BS she pulled at GT, and Tonie Morgan is thriving at KY? WTF was going on with womens basketball last year? Was Nell just checked out and done with this mess?
The rumor was that all the players were being courted with offers from mid-season on, and Nell got sick of the whole arrangement and the fact that GT couldn’t or wouldn’t up their spending to hold the team together. Morale suffered and the team spiraled down...

1 year contracts don't fix the issue not really, Really any length of contract is good if you want to do a 1 year you know you will be shopping the player at the end of it like a normal free agency deal. If you want to give a kid a 4 year contract... its a 4 year contract.
Exactly. If a coach wants to give out a 1 year deal then do so. I wouldn't do it with high school kids. I would want at least 2-3 year commitment from them but it's all roster management. The contracts and $$ at least give you a chance to manage a roster though. As much as the players are running things, we need to eliminate the coaches running players off so they can fix their own recruiting mistakes too. Make it a two way commitment.

I really think they have to make guys sit a year after transferring. Like, sure you can go whenever and as many times as you want, but you have to sit a year. Or half a season or ... something. There has to be a 'cost' to transferring.
Agree,
They can still make you NIL money while they wait. That would likely show true NIL value information and not pay for play value.

I heard a different story. Someone very close to former Tech star (playing for another school) says a huge part of the problem was Neil. Take this with a grain of salt. I have no idea what the truth was. I went to all of the games. Clearly something happened and the joy left the team.

At this rate, until the NCAA puts restrictions on the portal or limits the use, then expect every year we will have a new team sort of like the NFL.

The biggest issue right now is that players are basically free agents. Contracts are meaningless with schools and we're setting the lawsuits because of this.

It sucks that players are leaving tech, but this is just the new norm now. It's not necessarily a reflection on key, it's more a reflection of the standards that the NCAA is putting out. Key preaches about commitment and finishing the job, but that's the only school cfb mentality

Honestly players leaving is expected. I'm not super upset at anyone leaving, it's the nature of this sport at this point. What I am concerned about is if Key has replacements ready. If we whiff on portal like we did on HS recruiting it could be rough next year

KQ posted the breakdown of this. TLDR - He's being a drama queen

Last year, he was pissed that we signed TEs out of the portal as he wanted to be the featured TE. He's a decent passing threat, but he sucks at blocking. He also asked for more money and we obliged.

This year, he is pissed that we signed a TE out of the portal who has the same skillset he has, but is better and proven. He asked for more money, we told him to kick rocks.
Apparently, we are now fully in the world of Moneyball. College players are now professionals and professional players get paid based upon production. On measurables. On grading. Yards after contact, drops, missed blocks, TFL, sacks, interceptions, passes defended, pass breakups,

So, message to all college football players, don’t take any plays off, because those plays off, those plays with lack of focus, with lack of 100% effort, will cost you next portal season!

I propose that every school forces every player into the portal every year and then we have a draft/auction…maybe Hunger Games light (nobody gets hurt). Let’s make the offseason fun and the odds always in our favor!

NIL didn’t kill the bagman, it just changed his job description.
