If we are truly going to run the bawl, then we need to teach our OL to drive block. There comes a time when you just have to knock your man off the ball. Too often we couldn't do it this year - especially in the RZ. We also need to get Maddox ready to play a lot more than he has.
Maddox has put the ball on the ground too often than not when he had opportunities this year. He needs to make sure he protects the ball more.

You can’t really use King’s interceptions as proof of anything. We can all see that after his first season that Faulkner completely changed the entire passing game because of King’s interception rate. We simply stopped throwing downfield except in obvious situations like the first drive Friday. And you can tell it was drilled in King’s head to miss long as he missed a lot of receivers long this year. I’m not commenting on if I agree or not but Faulkner changed the entire passing game which is why we threw more passes behind the LOS than past the first down marker. This is also why Birr set a GT record for field goals. When the field shrunk Faulkner did not trust the passing game except when we were so far behind we had to throw like the 2 TD’s to Canion against Pitt. We never saw those type of play calls until we absolutely needed them. We won 9 games so I can’t say it wasn’t the right call but sometimes you gotta take risks to win big.
Good post. Buster did change O because of that int problem.

Auburn buzz is that they talked to Key, they were impressed, but that he didn’t want to leave Tech.
1. Is there a source or is this word of mouth?
2. Interviewing - I'm not sure what I expect for an answer here, but what's the point of interviewing if you're content with your current job? Is it to build good relationships in case something goes wrong at the current position? Is it just good practice/considered rude to turn down that offer to interview?

We still don’t have Miami or SMU next year, but 5 out of our 8 ACC opponents next year are going bowling this year. No one can predict anything with the portal, but I actually don’t know if our ACC schedule will be that much more difficult next year than it was this year. Non-conference is brutal with 3 P4 teams. As I type this, I am realizing I don’t think these observations are adding much to the conversation lol
One advantage we have next year is we actually have 7 home games at Bobby Dodd. Hopefully getting rid of the MBS game will help. The away schedule looks a little challenging. UGA, Clemson, Pitt, VT (would expect more from them with Franklin as coach), Stanford (ACC teams have struggled traveling to the West Coast). I would guess we would be underdogs for the first three away teams.

So a few things - The Pitt game went a little different then you are explaining it. The entire team played poorly for the first 1.5 quarters, not just the D.

But if we are just focusing on D then you are glossing over how poor they looked in the second half against BC doing the same crap they did against NC State and eventually Pitt. If we truly decided to wait and see if Pitt were going to do the same thing then that is very poor prep by the staff.
Well … in hindsight it does look that way. But coaching staffs are nothing if not inherently conservative. They had won playing D "B, not B" and there really wasn't any reason to expect that things would get better playing otherwise. Until the Pitt game when we got into a 28 - 0 hole and had to fight out of it.

I mean you could call that poor prep. I think it is just the way successful human organizations work. We all tend to get in a rut when what we are doing works.

Update: I had forgotten how ticked Key had been with the D after BC. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Personally, I think Gideon stays; stability is good for recruiting.

The ACC future will be interesting. My off the top thoughts.

Teams with a chance to be good
- Clemson will be good but I think their days as a true NC level team are over
- Miami - I think they have the highest ceiling. They are stacked with talent. QB play has been an issue and Christobal dumb decisions have clearly cost them games, huge potential
- SMU will be a good and dangerous team. Lashley is a good coach and they have tons of money
- Louisville, I believe in Brohm. If he can get a QB for more than 1 year that will make a big difference in their consistency.
- GT, maybe, if we get enough money to pay for more very good players. I like the coaching staff a lot
- FSU - it will take dumping Norvell and a few years to get them on track. Lots of potential with very poor results the past 2 years
- VT - I believe Franklin will be their answer

The rest are a big jumble that can have good years but will still struggle with consistent seasons. I hope GT does not drop into this group. We easily could.
You left out Wake. Dickrert is a very dangerous coach as is his DC.

On various Auburn boards as part of larger updates.

Nothing wrong in taking an interview. It’s all about connections. What if Cabrera left for Stanford and we got another Peterson in there. What decent coach, even a GT alum, would want to work in an antagonistic atmosphere? Johnson was able to do it because he was an older guy near the end who ran his own thing. As quickly as things went from the other coach to now it can go bad even quicker. Take a look at Ole Miss. Their staff and roster are about to be decimated. They will go from an 11 win team to a 5 win team in just a few months.

2 excellent additions in Outlaw and Jones today to our defense. And both, technically flipped from SEC programs. Hopefully, Carter will choose Tech soon as well. We needed some good news. Nice.

But Tennessee is also Power 4 and SEC. A win over them helps more than a win over Temple.

And should we win, it's likely to be a win over a ranked team. We saw this year they don't actually have to beat anyone to get ranked.

I was talking to a TN fan (not my father in law who I've mentioned before) over the holiday break. His defense was "but you have to look at who we lost to." I said yeah, every decent team you played. Now tell me who you beat. 5-7 Kentucky, that's their "signature" win this year. By score, they came closer to losing to 2-10 Arkansas than they did to beating uGA.
