CSC is such a different coach than CDS, I just can't be surprised that Stoudamire's players just don't connect with Cross. When you make such a fundamental change in approach, it isn't realistic to think we get to cherry pick on player retention.

And the budget stuff makes player retention problematic right off the bat. So there is that on top of that.

Should be a sparkly new roster next season. It should have that new car smell.
That's fine, as long as that new car is not a Yugo.

Ah well. Hoped we'd be able to keep certain guys but it is what it is.

As always, I hope we end up with a better, more well-composed roster in the end.

Ii got no judgments for the guys that entered the portal. Doesn't mean they're 'not OKG's' or whatever. I wish them well on the next stop.

7 down, 4 remaining, 11 new players to recruit. This is not a rebuild, this is new construction. We are plowing new ground, as this old farmer would say. A most interesting time of this century. I can envision a mutual agreement of the remaining four staying. One international, one from Atlanta, one from nearby Atlanta, and one almost graduating. We need some players to show the new 11 around campus.

I wish I were certain the erosion has ended.

It may not be "not connecting" at all, Lots of reasons to explore the options available. A big one is hoping to be part of a better team next year. GT is clearly in for a rebuild with likely a fairly low ceiling. That is not the most appealing reason to return for many players.

I don't think anyone is surprised that 7 have entered the Portal so far. I will not be surprised if the 4 who have not yet entered the Portal do so in the next 2 weeks.

We went thru this on the women’s side last year. Only 3 players stayed. Looks like same is playing out here. I’m sure CSC is hitting the transfer portal and working on getting the best players. I think one thing is that he will base our schemes on the players we get. You can see that in the last 2 years teams at Troy. 24-25 team was more athletic and more man D. 25-26 was less athletic and played multiple D including zones and man. I’m really looking forward to the incoming players and what they bring.

'Wasp, the first thing that came to my 3/4 century idling mind was Leonard Skynrd's summer 1977 song "That Smell". . It is a song about doom and gloom in the future if not careful. Band member Gary Rossington had just crashed his new car into an oak tree in Jacksonville. It was released two months before the band played at Georgia Southern College on October 13, 1977 at Hanner Field House, my first year coaching at Georgia Southern. I had the band sign a picture. Two weeks later, their plane crashed on the way to LSU , killing lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and two band members. That song haunts me even today. I do think "That Smell" does not apply to GTMBB and the new car smell is accurate. A new team for the most part.

Just have to wonder how many would have gone into the portal if Damon had stayed. Last season ending was so bad, have to wonder why they would have stayed. The biggest disspointment to me was how little Sylla played and he likely sucked up a lot of NIL money with very little real production.

When I look at the remaining four guys I see one who has genuine skills on offense, but has no clue on defense. Another who has skills, but needs at least 20 pounds of weight room inspired girth. Another who may have been the best high player in northern Germany, but could not get minutes with the ACC's last place team. Another who's a good kid that stands 5'11" (maybe) and shot 24% from 3.

I'm not depressed yet, but the portal is not even open yet.

So true. Women's side really only had 2 returnees play (Ines went out early). 5 of top 6 left to go for titles, but only one even made Sweet 16 (Morgan-KY), Rusne (Clemson) and Carnegie (ugag) went out in 1st round. Dunn (USC-W) and Chit-Chat (Iowa) went out in 2nd round. Imagine if they had ALL stayed in Atlanta with squad that was familiar w/each other...along with the new coach and 2 of the 6 transfers they brought in.

Yeah, if all we get are Troy boys, it's gonna extend our long Winter.

There are some solid players on Troy, however, GT would be in trouble if we have to depend on them for production next season. IMO, GT needs to find a very good PG, and a defensive minded big guy that can protect the rim while giving us 10+ pts/8+ rebs a game.

Having Mustaf return would have gone a long way as he would have probably been a high level player for us, and a veteran presence. I hope there's still a chance he returns.

The fact that it's looking like GT is going to go 0 for 3 in retaining our three best talents from last season (Mustaf, Ndongo, Fleming) just made Cross's job even harder.

The bright side is Cross probably has a lot more NIL money freed up, but he still needs to sell GT basketball to players who probably can't even remember watching GT in the NCAAT.
