How about this for a possible reason:

We scored 9 against them the night b4 against their “best” (presumably) starter and relief arms. They had played an extra game, although only burned two low leverage arms. We had scored 8 against them in four innings already. Ramsey might be thinking (based on all that and a seasons worth of offense) that we are getting a least a few more runs and likely a bunch more runs against their depleted pitching. As such he just needed to stop the bleeding with minimal damage and get to about the 5th and go to Patel to finish it up??? Our pen has been pretty good at that since the meltdown inning at Clempson.

Not, saying I agree with it, and you could use similar logic/thought to say go w Patel then, count on more offense and figure out in the 8th or 9th who to finish with.
Stop the damage with Patel with an 8-3 lead. Ride him as far as you can (as he did on Monday.) Send us to Supers. Period.

I can't comprehend why Ramsey did not bring Patel into the Sunday game after OU scored their first 2 runs in the 4th. It just boggles my mind. Didn't pull the pitcher until 5 runs (I think) were in and didn't use his top high leverage reliever at all during the game. It is almost like Ramsey conceded the Sunday game and was planning for Patel to pitch on Monday instead of trying to win the game on Sunday.
Yeah, in hindsight it looks like Ramsey chose to save Patel for Monday in case of a loss instead of going all out to win Sunday. I think he was too afraid to have nobody on Monday.

I think I know my answer, but do we cheer for OU or Kansas now? (Assuming that you can handle even thinking about anything college baseball right now - which I completely understand if you can't)

While there is something to be said to losing to the team that wins or all that hoopla, I just don't think I can find it in myself to cheer for them after they broke my heart. Add in the SEC aspect and the way a few of the players acted and yeah Rock Chalk.

Speaking a little more on that though, a few of their players took it upon themselves to mock the crowd after the game. I've just never understood that. I could potentially see it if the crowd was especially raucous or mocked you specifically or whatever. I just don't see the Tech crowd as that. I wasn't there Sunday, but Monday's game the crowd was pretty tame, as we've talked about elsewhere. The "Shake, shake, shake" chant when the catcher came up was about as "raucous" as it got - and he seemed to enjoy that. I'm pretty sure he wasn't one of the ones mocking the crowd fwiw.

I will say that I saw a post on Instagram from one of the non-official Tech accounts where Tech fans were standing right outside the OU dugout and flicking them off after the Saturday game. That's the only thing from this weekend that I saw that would be anything close to bulletin board material or any cause for anger.

I’m not actively watching anymore college baseball for the rest of the year. God forbid UGA makes it to Omaha I can just pretend it never happened and my ignorance is bliss.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

I find it hard to root for the SEC, especially Oklahoma now that they've broken our hearts twice (1994 ring a bell?). Ironically Oklahoma has now ended both Danny Hall and James Ramsey's first seasons...

I am begrudgingly rooting for Ole Miss because a friend and coworker's daughter is dating the Ole Miss catcher. He asked me if I wanted a ticket to the Auburn Super Regional if he could get an extra one for me. The blank death stare that I gave him was duly noted.

Me too. I yelled my heart out at those games this weekend. Superica has there once a year (for one week) strawberry margaritas starting tomorrow. My (newly Tech graduated) daughter and I are going to enjoy some First one is one me for any Tech fans. Seriously we will be there Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Buckhead location. My weekend plans got changed -drastically.

I’m shutting down baseball for the season. I will exit this season believing we faced one of the hottest teams playing right now. If they don’t cool off (every team does sooner or later) they could go all the way to a championship game.

I disagree NES. I think that last weekend was more about us than them tbh. They are a decent team but not a threat to make any further noise. Imo of course. I am going to cast my ballot with Ole Miss. Why? my neighbor is an Ole Miss grad and he will host some really good parties, so the longer they play the longer I can dovetail into the free cocktails, crawfish, steaks, pork shoulder or whatever else he and his lovely bride decides to serve. I have grown weary of trying to explain to him and his buddies how we really ARE a good team and program but just very unlucky. I try to tell them it's baseball but i don't think they buy in. which is odd, bc they have a baseball team too. Now I just shut up and enjoy the party and try to enjoy the moment and the free booze/food. Next time one of them smug *********** grins at my explanations of what went wrong I am going to get seriously ****** off. This is no joke. But i will probably wait until I don't want anything further to eat or drink.

I begrudgingly read The Athletic's super regional preview. I wish I hadn't since the knife just got twisted deeper. Two quotes of note about UGA they had:

-"Miss St has to visit Georgia, which was probably the best team in the tournament even before UCLA and Georgia Tech bowed out."

-"This lineup is arguably the deepest in the country."

I actually agree here. We had the most sellouts ever this year and I’ve never seen Russ C. that packed out from week to week. My fear is we go back to attendance of 500 people because even with the best roster in Tech history we couldn’t get past a regional..
Consistently winning AND competing for championships will maintain fan interest. It's just human nature I think.

Yep our best team ever just has to be the same year they have their best team ever and now they will win the NC because that’s how our lives go as Tech fans.

This sentiment is pretty prevalent here on this board among GT fans, but as far as I know not elsewhere. I live in an area with a multitude of sports fans and there's sizable representation from uf, fsu, miami, ucf, bama, tenn, nd, nc, clemp, mich, osu, tx, lsu, a&m, ole miss, ky, vandy, purdue, etc in solid numbers. College sports gets dicussed year around down here, even college baseball. No other baseball sports fans of those other teams buy into the "it's baseball" thing, whatever that means. I've never heard any other colleges fans say anything like it .

On a side note I'm the sole GT sports fan despite there being over a dozen GT grads at my company. None of the other GT guys or woman likes sports at all. Pretty crazy but I don't think any of them have picked up a ball of any kind in their entire lives, wouldn't know how to throw one or catch one if their life depended upon it.

GT has very high contingent of those types. It hurts us, but IIWII.

Thinking about your comments on Gt fans further...I think it is the reason why our FB team almost always plays Uga better over there than at home. It's gotten to the point where I (almost) would just rather play them in Athens annually although I understand it won't happen for budgeting and other reasons. I think our players perform better over there away from the GT fanbase ennui. I think statistics (W-L) bear this out.
Speaking of GT fan mindsets....watching the game on TV the camera panned to a GT guy with an open newspaper. He had it turned to the crossword puzzle page that had been completed, and the announcers just went on and on about it. It was funny but quite telling in a GT sort of way.

Good analysis of your position. 😊

Yes, we cracked and blew it. But OU never looked anything but poised, even when down several runs. They were playing with confidence. Will that continue? Depends on how good the crawfish, cocktails and pork shoulder are that you score.
