Speaking of GT fan mindsets....watching the game on TV the camera panned to a GT guy with an open newspaper. He had it turned to the crossword puzzle page that had been completed, and the announcers just went on and on about it. It was funny but quite telling in a GT sort of way.
The announcers even gave the guy a shoutout bc he was doing the crossword in pen!? :geek:

I saw that and thought the same. The age, demographics, mindset, etc
Also funny they joked about crossword done in pen. It was funny.
I’m laughing and saying to the tv screen… “Dude has an actual NEWSPAPER!” :D

This sentiment is pretty prevalent here on this board among GT fans, but as far as I know not elsewhere. I live in an area with a multitude of sports fans and there's sizable representation from uf, fsu, miami, ucf, bama, tenn, nd, nc, clemp, mich, osu, tx, lsu, a&m, ole miss, ky, vandy, purdue, etc in solid numbers. College sports gets dicussed year around down here, even college baseball. No other baseball sports fans of those other teams buy into the "it's baseball" thing, whatever that means. I've never heard any other colleges fans say anything like it .

On a side note I'm the sole GT sports fan despite there being over a dozen GT grads at my company. None of the other GT guys or woman likes sports at all. Pretty crazy but I don't think any of them have picked up a ball of any kind in their entire lives, wouldn't know how to throw one or catch one if their life depended upon it.

Lol. I would say that most people who played baseball get the "it's baseball." Imo baseball the only sport where you could play a darn near perfect game and still lose. You can make a perfect pitch and it can get blooped over the infield or it can even get hit hard over the fence. It's a weird game. Even the best hitters are going to go 0-for some times. Even the best pitchers are going to hang one now and again. Sometimes those hangers get taken, sometimes they get fouled off, sometimes they go over the fence. Because Vahn went 0-5 Monday doesn't take anything away from his season and doesn't mean he wouldn't have gone 5-5 if we played that same game again.

I don't think by anybody saying "it's baseball" they're meaning that we didn't have mistakes or that we didn't win because "it's baseball." It's more that you can't overreact to the outcome of a baseball game (or two). I think we probably beat them 7-8 times out of 10, BUT they won the 2 that mattered.

Baseball is the only sport that you can fail 7-10 times at something and be considered one of the greatest players ever.

Could you imagine a QB completing 3/10 passes?
What about a BB player with a 30% FG%?
Tennis player winning 30% of their serves?

Hell the batting averages in the MLB nowadays are not even close to .300 anymore. If you hit over .300 in today’s game it’s nearly a miracle.
