I disagree. Pitching blowing a six run lead in one inning yesterday and a four run lead with three innings to play today is not good enough.
It’s college ball. Runs are scored. You cannot go inning after inning in the clutch putting up goose eggs. Pitching wasn’t great, but it was good enough to win. Hitting was spotty at best.

Just my $.02 worth.

We also need more Shadeks on the team. He's the only guy that can come in with power in the bullpen. You need some dudes like that in these types of games, especially after they've seen nothing but offspeed all game long.
We left Shadek getting splinters on his butt. Wasted Barfield. Wilcox, left to rot on the pine? Buursema, nobody knows but he’s looked healthy on the sidelines.

Ok threw a ****bag out there and we chased his **** out of the zone, he kept them in the game. One of our star players just stood there and watched 3 strikes. We took the most tired pitchers and tried to get away with it. They all got hammered, but we learned nothing from it. Just kept marching them out there to get blasted so we could lose.

Coaching malpractice is what this is. I hope I hear that come out of the mouths of the culprits.

It was a great atmosphere this weekend. The place was rocking the whole time. Horrible way for it to end. My 12 year old is crushed.

Not that it would've changed anything, but how Oklahoma got to be the home team against us two games in a row is ridiculous and needs to be fixed. We played all year to get a great seed and in the most critical games of the year, we as the higher seed have to be the away team in our stadium. Just seems ridiculous. Why should it be "fair"? We're the higher seed.

Hopefully guys in the portal will see what this program is about and where it is heading. We need a bit more pitching and for the bats to stay hot at the right time. Tough last two days, but a helluva year.

Maybe in 20 years we'll laugh when we watch a grizzled Ramsey coach circles around some new hotshot coach as we remember what it looked like this weekend.

Just got back from the game. I tried to catch up on this thread and the board, but had to skip it because some of yall just suck. Come out of the bushes to crap on a team. I'm mad too. I have criticisms, but the woe is me pile on habits of some folks is just tired and lazy. Maybe just say nothing at all if all you have to contribute is something to the effect of "CDH 2.0" or "typical choke job." Can't wait for some of you to crawl back into your holes to not be heard from again until we win something big or lose something big.

My thoughts of the regional and the season:

Regional
  • My hate of the (mis)management of our pitching continues.
    • Hated the Friday move. It worked out well (I guess, after today who knows), but I think it was a really weak approach.
    • Not throwing Patel in the 4th yesterday, not even having him get up to throw, is the biggest blunder of the season. We had a couple of other times where we did this and our offense bailed us out. In big games, use your big guns. Win the game you're in and worry about the next one later when it comes to win and you're in games.
    • Starting Ballard wasn't ideal, but the way we used our staff it was one of really only two options. I always leaned the other way - Angelakos. I'm not sure he would'e fared any better, but at least he was better rested.
    • The way we used Tate meant that Loy was done and feels like waste of one of our more reliable arms in a moment when we needed reliable arms. I don't mind using Tate, just not the way we did. It seemed like there wasn't really a plan. Obviously you have to adjust on the fly, but you have to have a general game plan. In no way could we afford to only use Loy for 2 outs today.
    • Once the game was tied, Tate had to come out. Tate gives up WAY too many long balls to be throwing on short rest.
  • The offense yesterday and today wasn't ideal. We hit in stretches, but certain guys just couldn't get going. You can't hit all the time. It sucked that some of our guys went cold at the worst times. That being said, we still scored 8 and 7. I know we're used to scoring 10+, but 8 and 7 should be enough to have a chance to win games.
  • The strike zone sucked yesterday and today. It went mostly both ways, but it definitely felt like we got more of the crap side of it. I'm never one to blame umpires, but that was a pathetic performance by the guys behind the plate the past two days.
Season
  • What a ride. I know we had a lineup that it will be hard to match, but it was also only season 1 under Ramsey. He built this thing. He's going to get guys. He's going to get better at this coaching thing.
  • I hate it for the guys. As much as we hurt right now, they hurt more. Some of you throw "effort" and "want" out there and it's ridiculous. Those guys wanted it more than we did. Just because the outcome didn't turn out our way doesn't mean they lacked effort or want. It was a special season and they deserve better than the crap some of yall are saying.
  • I'm optimistic about Ramsey being able to build some great offensive teams. We'll get guys in the portal and the guys we keep are just going to get better. However, I do worry about the pitching side. Taylor has made improvements, but I think he's got to get better at in game management. I've talked about it ad nauseam at this point, but sometimes I think he and Ramsey outsmart themselves. They overthink it. The offense hid a lot of very questionable pitching moves this season. Blakely is the one thing that I will say came out as being a positive thing that we found. I still think Cooper will be an ace on this staff some day if he stays, but Blakely showed a lot this season.
I'm sure I'll have more later. I'm a little numb at the moment. The sun will rise tomorrow though. This is just the beginning. Don't let the outcome of today's game ruin the fun we had this season. We haven't "peaked." Far from it.

Edit:
Yeah, the defense today was very unfortunate. A couple of bad errors and a bad misplay by Drew.

Then leadoff walks. Blah.

I said somewhere above, I take back my defending on Ramsey's moves in the 4th from last night. If he was truly comfortable letting Patel go that long today, no reason to not bring him in the 4th yesterday at the first sign of trouble and go 4-5 innings.

The use (or lack thereof) of Loy today was abysmal. How can you not use the one guy who has pitched successfully in these type of pressure postseason games for more than 4 pitches?

So you're saying the same things the people saying "CDH 2.0" are saying, but you're somehow different?

Massively disappointed in this outcome.

I know full well that good pitching will beat good hitting the majority of the time (Braves vs Indians 1995 good example). But, I cannot say that OU’s pitching was good enough in this tournament. Our pitching and pitchers put in the game were the issue, IMO.

That was a solid team that was not great at any one thing, pitching or hitting. I suspect Kansas will not have much trouble with them.

Lol. Not at all. I'm not sure how you're reading it that way. I provided a critique that I've had all season (which honestly is more of a Taylor thing than Ramsey). I also said that it's only the beginning. Maybe you can't read between the lines or you need things clearly written for you or maybe it's just that you just hopped on the train, but Ramsey's offense and offensive strategy is something much different than CDH.

One thing I will disagree with is I think there was a plan and that was the problem. The plan was to use Tate in the 9th no matter what. He was walking around the bullpen getting loose in the 7th. Once Loy was already in and with 2 out of 3 lefties to start the 9th, that plan should've gone out the window.

Big difference in regular season 3 day weekend series versus possiblity of a 5 game weekend series.
Sure, I get that. But 22-5 with Ballard starting and Tate going deep against OU on Saturday allowed us a lot of flexibility to set up pitching like we wanted. Maybe even moreso than a typical weekend. We were not the team with a shorthanded staff but then we went and coached like it.
