There is nothing like a fall day (or night) at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field. When it is packed or full, (preferably with our own fans) it makes it all the better. This past season saw our attendance finally make it back to being good after five down years post-covid.
Before I tell my stories, here's some numbers.
CAPACITY: 44,000 (1947–1961) - 53,300 (1962–1966) - 58,121 (1967–1985) - 46,000 (1986–2000) - 41,000 (2001) - 43,719 (2002) - 55,000 (2003–2023) - 51,913 (2024–PRESENT)

Biggest crowds I remember in my lifetime:
The first time I was at a game and remember thinking "oh wow, this is pretty crowded" was the 2009 Virginia Tech game, which was funny enough not even sold out, just a few hundred short. I was at both 2015 FSU and uga games and both were slammed. It felt so good (even with the outcome) to see the crowd at the Pitt game this past November, truly a stellar turnout. I hope we pack the elegant old lady in white and gold this fall for the Colorado and Tennessee games, which will both likely be on national TV.
What about you guys? I know this is an odd question, I'm just trying to spur offseason conversation. Also, our stadium evolution is fascinating. It grew, and grew, and grew until the mid 60's, and from 1947-1966 was the largest stadium in the state. From 1967-85 it was at its peak, almost sitting 60,000. Those games which were over capacity with over 60k crammed in must've been a sight to behold. Then there was the late 80's and 90's, where the removal of the south stands made for a modest 46,000. The 2003 renovation brought capacity back up to decent levels. The 2006 ND had to have been electric, even with the loss. I was three months old and probably in a crib at the time, lol.
