What position does Scott sign first?

I personally don't read too much into that. I think he has an idea what he wants at each position but will adjust depending on talent/temperament. And in the realities of the portal you have to strike when the deal presents itself unless you really want to wait for someone you know is coming. I don't think you make a "statement" by who comes first.

Yeah, I just wanna see them add talent regardless of position.

The question for me is: who’s the centerpiece? Almost every successful team has a guy they build around. Who is that for Cross and his first GT team?

In my opinion, it can’t be Valdes (should he land here). He can absolutely contribute—maybe even start—but he doesn’t feel like the caliber of athlete you build an ACC program around.

He'd be a great complimentary player, but we need someone a tier or two above that level. No matter how strong your coaching or development is, you need a couple of guys you can truly lean on.

It’s exciting as a fan to watch a roster being rebuilt, but it’s also a bit daunting knowing we likely need to bring in 9–10 quality players to avoid another season like last.

Buckle up.

I agree you want someone you can build around, someone who from both a talent and personality perspective you can build around, but I don't think that person has to be the first person you sign.

There are 3 guys who have committed to Tech already. 2 from Troy and the big man from UGA. I think it's going to be public pretty soon.
Surely you aren't talking about Somto Cyril, right? That would be a massive get and we'd be beating out Miami and Arkansas for him. It has to be a backup - the math doesn't make sense.

Id guess Jackson McVey. Georgia based recruit (Gilmer to OTE) who redshirt as a freshman last year.

McVey is listed at 7'1. Having 2 bigs with differing skillets is good especially if McVey is able to shoot the 3 solidly. Add a pick and pop threat to the team at the 5amd allow the team to play 2 bigs without messing up spacing but that's dependant on both developing

From a quick internet look, Jackson looks a lot like Cole. Am I wrong?

He definitely looks like he could be scrappy...

On a serious note, the only minutes he logged last year was 3 minutes in an exhibition game against...Troy and Scott Cross. This guy is raw. Even at OTE his senior season he didn't put up numbers that would make you feel confident. You can't teach 7'1, but you gotta hope Cross sees something in McVey that he can work with.

Players that get points in the paint, driving or dunking. All the tourney teams had them. We clearly did not. Biggest need. A PG to deliver assists. Two excellent 3 pt shooters.
