Hell of a win. Loved the challenge and the guys rising to the challenge.

Don’t hate the gut-it-out wins to build the locker room. Definitely concerned about the way Patel finished 2025 and started 2026. Loy earning whatever we’re paying him.

Also just a different experience watching the team this year. I’m checking in periodically seeing us down and honestly regardless of whether it’s early / middle / late my first thought is “we’re probably putting up 2+ this inning.”

If someone has already commented on this my apologies, but does anyone have an update on Schmidt and why he is not playing these last couple of games? I'm happy that we have depth on this team but I really feel like Kent is the glue to our lineup. Not only with his ability at the plate, but also how great a defensive first baseman he is. So anyone with an update would be appreciated.

Also, any update on McKelvey?

I won't go into any details but it appears #10 and Adam could possibly be out for a bit....The lineup is notably different without the presence of #10. Same thing happened last year. Kent (imo) makes us an Omaha offense.

Thoughts from today's game as I won't be able to attend tomorrow as my son heads to Paris Island on Monday.

All in all...i feel these games are needed for what Tech has accomplished so far this year basically drilling teams. Kind of glad to see a tight early season game where we came out on top.

Winning by 1 or 100 at home does nothing for the rpi but losing could really affect it so I'm just glad we got the W

I stated this last weekend. Something feels different with Patel. Last year he attacked out of the pen. This year he seems to be nibbling, aiming and trying to avoid contact. Last year he went right after the batters.
Very impressed with Loy and think a real consideration should be made to move him into the starting rotation.

Stony Brook is a gritty bunch, but their fans are annoying, and me and my loudmouth buddy had fun :)

As I said above, Kent being out just changes the dynamics of our batting order significantly. DB leading off/Jarren in the 3 hole (Kent's normal spot).

Again, we won. Put up 6 runs and 11 runs in games without Kent however, they just seem a bit off the last few games.

Happy we are 7-0 and feel we sweep stony back to NY so there's really little to complain about.

On a side note, Praying for their coach .....Man i saw that live and it shook me. Dude took a shot in the 3rd base box.

Thanks to coach and Drew for signing autographs....Classy move coach after a tough walk off win. My son was so excited to get pictures and autographs from you guys.

Disappointed about the injur6 update. One guy is already a major contributor and the other look like he could become one.

Again the staff is pretty tight lipped about these things however that's just my speculation/opinion

I looked for 10 in the dugout today and just didn't see him there...Maybe i missed seeing him but it reminded me of last year..Could be completely wrong here...

Regarding Adam..I think he is absolutely one of the best bullpen arms we have but I saw the immediate reaction from him signaling quickly to the bench....Just didn't look good

Again I hope i'm completely wrong similar to 10 but I've played and watched enough baseball to see how these things tend to play out

Thanks scb. Good to know I just missed recognizing him in the dugout

To me Kent looked hobbled when he scored on the pass ball yesterday. Didn’t look serious just limp. IMO his is more precautionary. Now Adam may be a completely different story, but my hope is it’s just a strain and not as severe as it looked..

Schmidt was definitely in the dugout tonight and looked to be moving around fine. I think we're just being careful and letting him heal. While I love Kent being in the lineup and his production, we really don't lose much with the lineup we trotted out there today. You basically just get to play all of Baker/Daniel/Rogers. Tough day for that group today, but I don't see them getting 1 hit between them very often. Don't take that as me saying that we don't miss Kent in there, just that the drop off isn't all that steep. You basically trade some AVG/OBP for a little more pop.

The McKelvey injury didn't look too bad. Looked like he just pulled something imo. If it was a tear in the shoulder area he'd have been in much more pain and it would've been more visible. Much better that it's a shoulder than an elbow also. Elbow and arm injuries linger longer than shoulder. That being said, I'd be willing to bet we hold him out for a few weeks at a minimum out of precaution even if it is nothing but a pull.

There are four muscles in the shoulder and there's not much to do other than rest unless there's a tear. The expression on his face did not show a lot of pain, so it's impossible to know for sure. At this point in the season it's smart to make sure he is OK.

If you mean that a minor shoulder injury (like a strain) is better than a major elbow injury, then OK. Otherwise elbow injuries are much better than shoulder injuries. Elbows can be reconstructed using TJS, but there is no equivalent to that with the shoulder (rotator cuff).

Regarding McKelvey, my fear with him is around the shortness of the college season. At the MLB level, shoulder soreness would likely come with a 4-6 week rest period, and if that is successful it would be followed by the need to ramp back up. If we do the same with McKelvey, we are looking at mid to late April before he would be able to return. But I guess mid to late April is better than nothing, so perhaps I'm worrying too much.

I like Schmidt as a lefty power hitter in the top half of our lineup with Burress, Hernandez, and Lackey. Having lefty Baker at #3 is a stretch. We are a much better team with No. 10 in the lineup in my opinion. We need him back soon.

I mean that assuming it's a minor injury, it's better to be a shoulder than an elbow. There's not really a "pull" of your elbow. If you come out of the game because you feel something in your elbow, you most likely aren't coming back for a long time - speaking as somebody who had elbow issues and eventually permanently came out of the game with an elbow injury.

You can get a tight shoulder, you can pull your shoulder muscles, lots of things can happen in your shoulder that cause temporary discomfort. The fact that it's his shoulder is better that it being an elbow in the sense that there's FAR more of a chance we get him back. There's even a decent chance we get him back relatively quickly if it was just tightness or a pull.

It was usually our bigger, "swoller" McKelvey-looking dudes who would have shoulder issues pop up. I saw a lot of them come back quickly. I'm a smaller, not as built dude, so it wasn't an issue I had often. I look a lot more like the 5'9 guy Stony Brook threw than McKelvey. Lol.
