I'm going out on a limb here, but the Pitt and uGag defenses were probably the 2 quickest and physical defenses we faced all year, and that's why our offense struggled against. Hate to say it, but I have to give credit where credit is due.
Very impressed with both of them and with UGA's offensive line and running back Frazier. Stockton? Not so much.

I don't know that this team was capable of a true "dominating performance" for the simple reason that the coaches have pretty much gotten all they could get out of them. Just too many holes to fill on defense, not enough speed. I was watching Ole Miss and Mississippi State and they had guys every bit as fast as Singleton last year, Malik, and Rivers this year but were a good four or five inches taller. They looked like they had been cloned and could run like the wind.
UGAg is #13 in total D. They are by far the best D we've faced all year. Closest others are Wake (#26), Pitt (#30), and Clem (#47). Further, UGAg is the #5 rushing D team, the #43 team passing efficiency D. That was a darn good D we played the other night. We are #93 in total D. In total O we've now dropped to #13 from #1. UGAG is #41.

We are a good bit better offensively than they are, but they are light-years better D then we are. Yet, we played them to one score and had a puncher's chance at the end.

Yes! From 247 Talent Composite below. I would say Coach Key and his staff did a good job just keeping GT as close as they did with this much difference in talent. To close the deal on UGA, he needs to improve this year's recruiting class. He had a pretty good recruiting class last year, but this year is not looking good so far. Maybe he can flip a few 4-star players in Tech's direction. You have to stack good classes one on top of another to get where Key wants to be. By the way, I heard AD Alpert use the new phrase for recruiting, Player Acquisition.

GT-----5-star players----0------4 Star Payers---12------3-star players--62

UGA---5-star players---13------4-star players--57-----3-Star players--23
This is a big part of the reason UGA has been so dominate in College Football the past 5 years.

My sister in law who is a huge Auburn fan and has probably forgotten more football than I will ever know said that Canion has greatness written all over him. She could not believe that UGA stayed with the running game as long as they did in the second half. She thinks, and I tend to agree but will bow to the more knowledgeable folks on this forum, that Stockton had a bad case of the jitters magnified by that early interception and Bobo did not trust him throwing the ball all over the place. I kept asking why UGA did not give the ball to Frazier more in the second half. Was he hurt?
Stockton was 11/21 for 70 yards 1 TD, 1 INT and a QBR of 25.4.

I wondered why UGA was so boring on offense. I don’t think it was the jitters, but I do think we had Stockton dead to rights, and Bobo and Smart weren’t going to let him lose the game.

To think their hype machine had him ahead of Haynes King for Heisman for several weeks. SMH.

11 completions for 70 yards? Am I right in thinking he won't put this game in his personal highlight video? Do you think, UGA was deliberately holding back for the SEC championship game? I find that hard to believe but in this day and age anything is possible.

He is way down the list for All SEC quarterback. I know I am too critical of someone who has won a lot of games for them but put him up against Notre Dame or Ohio State and they would make mincemeat out of him. I just don't think he is anything more than a game manager albeit a good one.

This whole season lined up to be so damn special for GT. We did not play Miami, UVa, FSU,SMU, or Louisville. We started 8-0…Then UGa plays its worst game, its absolute WORST game, in recent memory against us …and we lose 3 of last 4. This is catastrophic failire on historic scale. Someone must take responsibility. I suggest we blame the OL
I will take the blame for not praying hard enough IF Stech takes his share for not drinking enough. That seems fair to me.

I suggest going to the recruiting forum.

The ranking is a function not only of quality but quantity and we only have 18 commits so far vs a team like UNC that has 39 commits. If you look at average ranking we are right there with most other ACC teams behind the usual suspects. If we can secure a few of the flips we are working, and grab a few more 4 stars, we will firmly be behind Miami,Clemson, and UNC but above the rest in average grade. We want good players, not to win some imaginary ranking. It will be interesting to see how UNC manages their roster with that big of an incoming class.

with our good class last year, 27 seniors, and the expected usual portal attrition; I would say our focus will largely be in the portal this year to get players that can contribute right away.
Yes. As I have said here before the ranking has not a good indicator of the quality of the recruiting classes. I have always advocated for the average stars for each team, regardless of numbers. I did some calculations using that a couple of years ago and Tech looked pretty good. I bet They still would, but I'm not going to go through all those calculations again.

Do you think, UGA was deliberately holding back for the SEC championship game?

Nope.

I had that thought for a minute, but it doesn’t fit.
  1. UGA (and half the planet) thought they could run on us all day. That wasn’t true
  2. If anyone watched NC State, they would have thought fast receivers would tear us apart, but that definitely wasn’t working.
We still had two players in the same gap a few times.

Boy, they were ready for us on defense, though.

Was that scheme or just talent differential? They just whipped us up front with King not having much time on his throws and, as I said before, there were several times when we had holes or creases that seemed like would have hit for much bigger plays against pretty much anyone else on our schedule but turned into 7 or 8 yard gains. They had serious speed.

And, after the handshake by the coaches at the end of the game, Smart walked away shaking his head like, “Why can’t we ever win an easy game against these guys?”

I’m inclined to think that Key gets more out of his players than Smart does out of his players. If both coaches recruited the same level of talent I would rather have Key as coach.

I think both. They do a lot of twists and stunts on the line, and they can do them because they have athletic players

Go back and look at (I think Tech’s first drive) where King picks up a first down on a nice run. He is so anxious to beat Georgia’s speed to the outside he stumbles for a moment and has to regain his momentum. If he doesn’t stumble, I believe he scores. Well designed play that caught uga off guard. But you could tell Tech was already reacting to the speed of the defense. False starts and illegal procedure calls are also a result of a team reacting to speed.

And yet, in this thread we have some blaming the coaches for this loss????? Makes me wonder if some even bothered to watch the game or ,if they did, understand what they were watching.

I said it before, but when I was teaching, I didn't have to expend additional energy on the A students. But I worked my tail off with some of the C and D students. Same when I managed people. The superstars and high performers just need directions. Then you pretty much just get out of their way uness asked. I think Kirby understands this very well. Although I imagine Key does too at the end of the day. They both coached for Saban.

I haven't felt so down after a football game like this, in easily 10-15 years.
Guess the 8-0 run really got my hopes up, something I haven't felt watching NCAA or NFL in quite some time.

I expect King to get the start and play a lot in the bowl game, but any chance we may see Philo/Knowles get some PT? Or will they give King a full game?

And all these years I thought Miss Stowe just liked me. 🫤
