If you have access this is a fantastic article (very, very snarky)

Gosh I hope Miami wins tonight. It's great they're in the title game and the SEC is left behind, but "Another Crappy Conference" winning the natty would be yet another disgrace for the SEC.

They would be better off. Several chances to make the playoffs. ACC champs, runner up, or at large like the U.
I'd love to see the rest of football collude against Notre Dame. I think it would take 2 years for them to join a conference if the P4 teams stopped scheduling them. They'd have 5 P4 games a year (the ones guaranteed by the ACC). They would need an undefeated regular season to make the CFP if they only played 5 P4 teams.

Being able to legally pay players really changed the field. It did not level it, but it did increase the number of programs that could legitimately compete.
The SEC was the only conference were there was alot of illicit spending going on. There were a program or two in other conferences, it paled to what the SEC schools were doing.

The big beneficiary was the B1G. Once all their schools could start legally paying players, alot of those schools are really large with really deep pockets. It allowed the B1G schools to start offsetting the natural advantage that the SEC had in terms of location.

They will be back in the title game, but it will only be because they are given half of the playoff spots. If you continually have half of the spots, you will eventually end up in the championship game. Then you can claim making the game as proof that you are the best. BCS was based largely on polls with a little bit of computer. SEC champion was always going to be in the BCS championship game for the last 8-10 years because of the polls. Then being in the game was proof that they were the best, which solidified being at the top of the polls and in the game the next year. For the past two years, the SEC has had 8 of 24 playoff spots. This year they had 5 of 12. (42%) They didn't win a single game against another P4 conference, yet they are still ~30% of the On3 preseason top 25. Sports media refuses to accept the results on the field and continues to push the narrative that the SEC is so much better than other conferences that the bottom of the SEC would be champion of any other conference.

Is this because 1/3 of the sports media live/work in SECheat areas?

Partly because ESPN has been pushing that narrative. Partly because it is just accepted by the public at large. How many things are just accepted with zero evidence? In the last 10-15 years how many crazy things have been accepted as absolutely true, simply because it spread on twitter or facebook? I have had discussions with people on this forum who have basically said that --everybody knows that the SEC is best-- when I have pointed out arguments against that stance. The SEC spread it. ESPN spread it. People believe it, and for many people it will take more than factual evidence to convince them otherwise.

I’m with you. Back in the BCS era, I highly doubt the two best teams were ever chosen.
All I ever heard was they passed the eye test. This year it would have probably been Georgia and Ohio State in the BCS.

Mutt cannot win a playoff game because they don’t have the $$ to buy the talent necessary to overcome their coaching weaknesses any more. Why anyone keeps buying this BS they’re some elite team is beyond me. 2024 it took a lot of ref engineering to enable the big bad mutt to beat us in 8 OTs. This year they beat us by a TD. 3rd or 4th or 5th best ACC team is basically even with the top of the sec in terms of on field play. The ACC vs sec records are about dead even. The evidence is mounting but the chump change sec is going to be completely overrun in this new NIL environment with big oil B12, B10 and their huge programs and a host of other slightly less affluent programs in the ACC that still have enough money to outbid them on players they want. sec is hosed, hope they enjoyed the hand full of years they manipulated the system to their advantage because that crap is coming to an end quickly. Back to NASCAR they all go!
