Hopefully not, to me, that would mean we literally couldn’t get anyone else in the portal or the incoming 5-6 WR’s we have are no good. I don’t anticipate that.
Agree 100%. Having said that, I kinda think for a moment about a 6'6"-6'9" current tight end moving over to the DE position to rush the passer and get his presumably long wingspan up in the QB's eyesight. Even better, beat the OT and completely F up the QB's plan for the play. Just saying. Difficult to throw effectively over a dude that tall with arms extended.

Further, while on the subject...the most underrated physical characteristic in American sports is wingspan. Long arms. I'll take a college basketball player who is 6'7" with long arms (and can jump and knows how to use it) over a 7-footer in the post defensively that has concrete in his shoes. Same applies to most positions in football especially in OL and DL. Even a WR who has long arms can and is a difference maker. Point being, don't just look at height and weight. Or wingspan either. Vertical jump, speed, etc., are why some choices are made that make you go "what?" Either they are not as advertised on a listed roster or they are better. Guys like Bay Bay, Megatron, and Marco Coleman "had it". Bay Bay being the one who was surprisingly drafted as high as he was by the Broncos. Calvin and Marco were expected to go early 1st round.

What weight did Michael Johnson play at? He was a 6' 7" athlete that developed into a monster DE who went on to a long NFL career. I think he came in as a TE as well. That transition certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Wow. Great memory and even better call. This says he was at 260#...

Michael was a bad arse. Really good player for the Bengals and amazing motor. Just one of many NFL guys who came to Tech just to play for/under Tenuta. There were a lot of them.

2022 Michigan only had 3 WRs have more than 10 catches.

I would say this is what we are trying to model ourselves after. Two great running backs and multiple TE sets.

I really hope we don’t do this. I watched Michigan underperform in big games with Harbaugh thinking all they had to do was play bully ball and have it fall apart when they met equally talented teams. Sure they won a championship but only when they were the most talented team (and maybe a weeeee bit of cheating)

Like what? If we land Justice Haynes we will be trying to mirror this approach. Both their leading receivers were 7th round picks.
Maybe the fact that they had Luke Schoonmaker and Colston Loveland catching passes from the TE position? If you're point is we're trying to mirror that, I'm not sure we have anywhere close to the same TE talent level.

You have to not only incorporate TE into the offense, but you also have to make use of them in a positive manner...something the previous OC never figured out from all appearances.
