that was part of my point he is gone and people see a winning plan from a high level but missing details. Now is the time to double downI know he was awful but we as a community have got to stop letting him ruining Waffle House for us. We’ve had enough time to heal since our breakup, and it’s time we started asking for our things back.
DL and LBs. It’s the fastest way to get good. Sacks and turnovers baby.QB and DBs
Whenever I've asked for extra butter on my grits or extra cheese on my hash browns they have always been accommodating. For an extra fee of course. But, it's worth it. I'm missing why now is any different though. I mean, we are talking about eating at Waffle House, yes? Wait. I'm confused. Which is pretty easy for me I admit. Sorry.that was part of my point he is gone and people see a winning plan from a high level but missing details. Now is the time to double down
Okay, I get it. There IS reason for optimism. After reading many “ the sky is falling” comments on several posts recently, I just think we need to take a couple of steps back from the edge.
We have something at our Alma Mater , that we have had only rarely in our history. And I am very optimistic about the future of sports right now. Why, you may ask ?
Simply put, we have the ideal alignment of a “ pro sport “ President - probably the most “pro” we have ever had. Next, our previous AD was replaced by one at least equal to, if not better. And finally, we have a HC in football that gets “TECH” and loves “ TECH “!
In these turbulent times in sports, we have the perfect people in place to guide our teams through this . Relax!
Just my 3 ( inflation ) cents.
He is a Tech alum. His wife is a Tech alum. He has a son who is a Tech alum. Slice him open and see what color he bleeds to quote a current influential employee of our athletic department. Come on. There are things to worry about. This ain't one of 'em. Sorry.Okay, I get it. There IS reason for optimism.
But what happens if MIT or Stanford come calling? Suddenly our "pro sports president" goes back to being Dr. Cabrera and we get Pettit, Jr. or somebody?
If everyone from the players on up is looking out for #1, who is looking out for Tech?

Well unfortunately that’s the way the sports world is today. Nothing- except death and taxes- is certain. Let’s just say “ the odds are in our favor”. How’s that ?Okay, I get it. There IS reason for optimism.

Getting after the qb successfully makes everyone else on defense look like all-AmericansDL and LBs. It’s the fastest way to get good. Sacks and turnovers baby.
Goes both ways. Willie Clay and Ken Swilling and Thomas Balkcom and Keith Holmes (and Marlon Williams covering as OLB) sure made life easier for Marco Coleman and Coleman Rudolph and Kevin Battle up front too. This is why football is the ultimate sport. Not doubting your comment, by the way. You can have 3 All-American 1st round draft choices along the D-Line but if you can't cover anybody with effectiveness then the opposing offense will negate that rush with a roll out and burn your beehind. We need balance and depth across the board.Getting after the qb successfully makes everyone else on defense look like all-Americans
Or the AD just call or return calls from recognized high potential donors. And allow donors to give to the sport of their choosing. If a donor wants a particular sport to improve, let at least part of that donation go to that sport. And let NIL donations be tax exempt. And have a plan for coaches to interact with students, who are the future donors. Bobby Cremins would go to the frat houses to recruit students. Students even dress like him at games Josh Pastner would give away TV sets with his own money. Hmmm? At least he tried. Coach Hyder taught mandatory PE classes and students knew and remember him. Some of his best players early on were recruited from the classroom. Our GTAA through the Legends contracts puts more focus on halftime activities than the GTAA puts on the game being played, saying they want to have a good fan experience. A good game is the best fan experience. Build it and they will come. That movie brought Shoeless Joe Jackson out of the cornfield because everyone wanted to see Shoeless Joe. Treat the athletic letterwinners a little better, just in case some have money to give. The letterwinners club is almost non-existent, with such moves as renaming the Letterwinners Club suit in the North endzone to another name I don't remember and increasing the costs to letterwinners to have seats there.Tech fans (love em or hate em) are typically smart with their money. They will not put good money after bad (waffle house loser) but will strongly invest in a solid winning plan. That is why I still feel like there is a tremendous untapped potential for additional funding. They want to see strong plans and details of how the money will be used and the expected results of using that money vs downside of not spending it.
I think Tech athletics fund raising really needs to step up and be the best at communications in the industry with their fans/donors. There is a sweet spot missing where I think you could get 20,000-30,000 fans to donate between $5K and $10K based on a clear plan and roadmap. On top of the big donations.
As an example: Put out a 5-10 point document fans can use so they can help convince their significant other this is a smart thing to do
Look at all the friction points to funding and reduce each one
Don’t think this will go to recruiting the portal… probably upgrading the Dodd and for some reason the basketball facilitiesaNo gd-it! Frick all thqt noise, We need to buy a defense
The best db’s in the world will look like crap with no pass rush, but a good pass rush will make avg db’s look great, but we all know that. I loved Brookings and Rogers, what a combo! But imo those guys would be too slow against modern offensesGoes both ways. ETA: Please give me another duo of Brooking and Rogers at inside linebackers again. They will take care of a lot of things.
TT, I feel you bruh. Your example is just one in a thousand. Or million. Every time we flip AD's, I keep hoping one will attack not just the teams on the field and their performance but also have an internal focus on improving the game of the GTAA itself. I feel like in many ways it has the same lack of customer service and disdain for continuous improvement culture as do our local DMV or our localOr the AD just call or return calls from recognized high potential donors. Great DB's will make average DL's look great. The point is you need quality and depth at every position if you want to be a legit playoff contender, might as well a national title contender. Tech has had great offenses with terrible defenses and very good defenses (see Gailey era) with crap offenses. Last time we were excellent in all 3 phases was 1990 and we see what we got. Don't put all your stock into one position group as they all feed off one another. The one position I don't worry over is the 3rd string punter. But old Vince Dooley always brought up Vanderbilt's backup punter in the week leading up to their scrimmage as a huge difference maker so perhaps I should be. He's a Hall of Famer after all and what do I know? The best db’s in the world will look like crap with no pass rush, but a good pass rush will make avg db’s look great, but we all know that. Waffle House should have a 3 for $9 deal and call it the Goof Error Special.I know he was awful but we as a community have got to stop letting him ruining Waffle House for us. We’ve had enough time to heal since our breakup, and it’s time we started asking for our things back.
Maybe Ron but Keith was fast and played many a year in the NFL. Brooking maybe the best success story in Tech football history. The best db’s in the world will look like crap with no pass rush, but a good pass rush will make avg db’s look great, but we all know that. There is always something to be found to worry about. Either learn to look at thingss positively or negatively (Not attacking you specifically with that) But life is much better being the glass half full typeOkay, I get it. There IS reason for optimism.
