Opening Odds--Miami vs. Indiana

Favorites have covered the line in the natty six times in a row. I don’t think Miami gets mauled like Bama or Oregon but am abstaining from betting on this one since I don’t see any value in the line.
I believe the big key for Miami to have any chance is to be able to run the ball effectively. Can there OL get push against Indiana's DL. If yes, they can slow the game down like they did against Ole Miss particularly in the first half. If they can't, I think Indiana will run away with this.

Yes shorten the game, reduce IU’s possessions. The question is can they drive the field that way without making mistakes?

I have not yet seen a DL that Miami cannot push. Maybe Indiana’s is the one? We’ll see. I have not seen an OL that Miami cannot penetrate. Maybe Indiana’s is the one? We’ll see.

Miami is, in my opinion, the best LOS team in the country and certainly the best that Indiana will face. That difference, however, could be offset by how well coached Indiana is. I think the odds makers have it right.

The guy who runs the service department at my car dealer is an Ohio State fan. He’s convinced they would have beaten Indiana if they had any kind of kicking game. He also thinks Miami is the toughest team they faced. FWIW.

Malachi Toney is about the only one that could potentially move the ball on Indiana's D. Game will come down to him and Miami keeping the game low scoring.

I hope Miami can bring the ACC another National Championship. My worry is based on the efficiency of the Indiana offense. Can the Miami defense slow them down?

I suppose I am looking at Mendosa's near perfect passing in the last two games. Over the last two games against Alabama and Oregon, he only had 5 incomplete passes. If the Miami defensive line can get to him a few times, perhaps they can disrupt this seemingly smooth offensive machine. I hope that will be the case.

What strikes me is that Indiana seems much more disciplined that Miami, and that could spell the difference. Hope the 'Canes can win, but this is a major uphill climb IMO.
Should be a closer game for the Hoosiers than Alabama or Oregon, but no way would I take the points. Hope I'm wrong and Miami bettors cash in on the money line.

The bold is the most interesting to me…IU OL is really good and doesn’t miss assignments. I think both teams will try to possess the ball. I think IU will be more successful doing it without mistakes…

The reason Miami lost two games and had a close game against Ole Miss is because this team can be incredibly sloppy. This is the opposite of Indiana. They play as clean and close to perfect that you can. They do not beat themselves. I genuinely believe Miami’s A+ clean game can compete with Indiana, but I don’t know if I have the confidence to expect it to show up. They’ve still only played one clean game during this playoff run.

I don't think there is a better OL or DL in the nation than the ones Miami will put on the field. That being said, I don't think Indiana's lines are vastly inferior. I think both secondaries are probably equal and the offensive skill players, outside of QB, are probably equivalent as well. QB is the real difference. Beck has to play mistake free for Miami to have a chance. If Beck plays clean, Miami limits possessions and extends drives, then the 4th quarter could be a win for Da U.

That being said, I see Indiana winning, though I am not confident enough to say they cover.

Agree with that and feel the same way. I am really hoping it is a good game that goes down to the last few possessions. I mean, last night I turned the game over at halftime to watch the 8 gazillionth episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the Food Network (on a Friday night). That's sad. :D :D :D

I agree with the consensus here. Talent is pretty much equal. (Shows what player evaluation and coaching can do: Indiana 7 4 stars, Miami 4 5 stars and 40 4 stars.) It will come down to the lines. If Beck gets decent protection and Miami can run the ball, then that have a chance. Provided, that is that Beck doesn't decide to suck, as he sometimes does. He had best not; making mistakes against IU is a death sentence.

We'll see.
