All good names, but I'd bet it is someone that we haven't heard of. That's fine...They don't need to be hyped up.

Diop and Cole will be serviceable, and I expect both to blossom under Cross, but neither have a post-game or moves on the block.

Of the two, Diop is way ahead offensively...That is where Cole needs the most work, but the experience he gained a year ago will really help us.

End of the day, just give me someone that can anchor the D, grab a board, and occasionally throw up a baby hook that goes in, and I'll be good.

More than anything, I just want to see a big body! Sometimes that alters shot which is as effective as blocking them.
Agree with the above and I'll add someone that can stay on the floor while not committing unnecessary (foolish) fouls leading to forced bench sitting.

Real question ... if he wasn't DScott's son ... what would be the interest level?

I remember seeing his HS highlights and understanding why we didn't seem to have much interest. That's the best way I can put it.
6'10 and a good shooter

I’m taking a flyer on bigs with offense. His dad's outspoken nature might be a detriment

I don't have much knowledge about Trey Scott outside of when we recruited him, and looking at his GA State stats. I just don't see anything that tells me he's a good shooter.

Overall, he shoots 40.7%, which is below average for a post player. From the 3, he's shooting 28.1%. He's had more than twice as many games where he shot 0-for in games from the 3 than games where he made a 3pt shot.

He's actually listed at 6'11. When you're 6'11 and you're athletic and can move like Scott can, there's certainly a lot to work with.

I’m taking Dennis TREY Scott III over Marshall and most options
As I recall, Josh was recruiting Dennis's son Trey in high school 2023-24 year. Dennis had at that time enrolled in GE's Executive MBA program to get a GT degree do his number could be retired. Josh sent out a notice in Sep 2022 for a meet-greet for at McIntosh to meet a new member of his staff, Dennis, who would handle the Letterwinners and outreach program, similar to James Forester's job today on the staff. I think that happened but I could not go. After Damen came onboard in March 2023 and Trey was a junior, Trey made the decision to go to Georgia State for the 2024-25 season. Dennis continued to work at ESPN and finished his Executive MBA degree on weekends and his number was retired in Jan 2025. I never heard why the signing of Trey to Tech did not occur and he signed with Georgia State instead. He was injured his freshman year at GA State out for the season, and played in 2025-26. I assume he would have three years eligibility remaining. To me that whole scenario was a bit awkward.

I’m very impressed with Cross so far. We all know next year will be a tough year but it won’t be as bad as this year and Cross can actually coach so while the W’s may not pile up in conference play we should be a program marked as building which will help in recruiting and portal. Just like it’s been taking several years in football, Cross is putting in the early work to build it up fin a few years. GT sports has turned the corner in my book. And Ramsey just crapping on UGA shows it can be done.

Nobody recruits high schoolers anymore aside from the 5* who are ready to ball out freshman year. Top 30 doesn’t mean much.
I dunno, it’s no longer the only component and the classes are often smaller, but the names pulling the most 4*s from HS too still seem to generally be ones with good seasons… there’s a good chunk of recruiting skill that translates between both HS and portal. Need to find ones who are better team fits than Stoudamire found in either pool, though.

A lot of HS guys will transfer, but it’s a cheap way to get the inside track for the ones who do blossom. If George or Ndongo had started at other schools would GT have had as good a chance at getting them to transfer in as SOs or JRs at all vs keeping them?

HS recruiting is still part of the game, just not as big a part as it used to be.

That said, i'm happy with what he did with HS recruiting. He kept 2 players that CDS had recruited in the fold (Diop, Bailey), switched out one for a similar position player that is much more highly rated (Allen, composite #57 for Wingfield, composite #163) and brought a recruit from Troy that he obviously liked (Harper).

I think last year sort of taught Cross about the value of good HS recruiting. His top 3 players from his 2024-25 squad were poached by other schools. Rather than trying to bring in kids from the portal, he was comfortable with players they had already recruited and were developing to replace them and it payed off as they won the Sun Belt and made the NCAA Tourney for the 2nd straight year.

For GT to be successful in the current environment it is going to be important for the program to both bring in talent through the portal but also supplement that with kids who are developed in the program and can take on larger roles when we have players poached (which will happen since we are not flush with funds).

GT feels like a program that will need to be a 50/50 program to win. It can't build a program of superstar HS or portal players as it doesn't have the type of money. Instead it has to find the right pieces in the portal and then supplement that with good HS players that are developed in the program.

One other note. I saw that the Cooper brothers from Troy ended up at Liberty.

I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

Puyallup WA= 43,000 people
Troy AL = 18,000 people
Lynchburg VA= 70,000 people
Atlanta GA= Half a million people.

Some people (myself included) just ain’t built for the city life. I don’t know that was the issue but it makes sense to me.

Absolutely. Some people want to live in a big city and some don't.

. . . and Auburn at 80,000.

After almost 40 years in medium sized towns since school and now moving back to Atlanta last year, I can see the positives in living in a smaller town. There were both financial and family decisions for making the move, but somedays I do ask myself "why the **** did I do this?".

Some like both. I moved from Inman Park and its surrounding suburbs (aka, Atlanta) to Oriental (pop. 900). Oriental doesn't have a traffic light, but neither did Elizabeth St.
i spent 30 years in a town without a traffic light and only 1800 people. The first time i had to drive to Charlotte I was far from comfortable. Then I lived in Oklahoma City for seven months. If you ever have the opportunity to do that, dont.
