Duke may be looking this offseason again
Firing James Franklin, paying a huge buyout, and hiring Manny Diaz to replace him would be a pretty hilarious string of events.

Now that’s a lot of Dong
Not in 2022. It's been very common over the past 15 years, but we were trailblazers when we started it in 1994.Is it just me, or are we seeing more mid-season firings than usual? Did we start a trend in 2022?
My thoughts exactly. This is a great example of the decadence of the human condition, IMPO.I mean think about it. If your coach only won 34 games the prior three seasons, and only won two playoff games last year wouldn't you pay him an ungodly amount of money to go away?
Fools and their money are soon parted….while saying nothing about the gross waste of millions by stupid and impatient schools snd boosters.
Firing James Franklin at this time for anything other than cause is pure stupidity, IMPO.He won two playoff games last year
Diaz won't be at the top of their list. My guess is the top guys would be Rhule at Nebraska, a former Penn State player that has turned 3 college programs around. I also think Cignetti from Indiana is very high on their list as what he has done at Indiana is remarkable. I suspect they will watch how the season plays out.Firing James Franklin, paying a huge buyout, and hiring Manny Diaz to replace him would be a pretty hilarious string of events.

Money is not an issue for Penn State.
We are all the poorer for it.Agreed. I regret clicking on that link.
Rome’s coliseums were said to be a priority in the fading empire. These AD's don't seem to mind spending other peoples money with buyouts. The amounts being touted are obscene to most people in today's economy. All in the interest of winning football games.
Penn State lost in the College Football Playoff semi final last year and returned nearly everyone on offense and a good chunk of their defense. Their Preseason Ranking was reasonable based on what they had returning from a very good team.Re: Franklin
The thought hit me this morning about preseason rankings. Normally it’s in the context of complaining about how teams like GT are so low and have to earn everything before getting credit.
But for teams like Penn St, look what an inflated preseason ranking does to them… if no rankings came out till mid season, I wonder how much more stability it would create with fewer firings.
Maybe sports agents are the biggest beneficiary of preseason rankings afterall.
Yes. They were a regular part of Roman town/city design from the gitgo. During the Republic, when gladiatorial games and animal hunts were part of private religious ceremonies after a prominent person died, the arenas were usually temporary structures made of wood and disassembled afterwards. (This applied to theaters too.) But the "games" proved extremely popular and by the end of the Republic were used to build popular support. At that time building the arenas in stone and allowing the wealthy and politically ambitious to put on games in remembrance of relatives and such became the way to go. The Empire continued the practice with imperial support.Rome’s coliseums were said to be a priority in the fading empire.
Too cynical?![]()

Rhule will probably be their main target, I agree. That is their moon shot. I highly doubt they can get Cignetti from Indiana. Poaching guys who are doing well at other big schools isn't going to be easy. Indiana and Nebraska have money also.Diaz won't be at the top of their list. past performance is no guarantee of future results
More irrelevant than a husband in a hotel wingback chair. And I think Liberty says they are looking to go in a different direction these days.Nope. He has made Liberty worse than irrelevant.
We lucked out on that one.
