It's fine with me if you choose not to believe me. I can tell you 100% that there are only 12 funded scholarships. It is necessary for Tech to find funding for another 10. I was at a baseball game around a month ago and overhead some donors talking. What I gathered was there was a meeting regarding the scholarship problem. Ten days ago I was told the same thing. After tonight I will have more information.
Shame on us if that's true. We're spending Tex's money on the wrong things. If it were a Title IX issue that'd make more sense.
I also don't really understand what you're saying that it's necessary for Tech to find funding for another 10. Tech is funding the 12. Are you saying that it's up to the baseball program specifically to find funding for another 10. And if that's true, why 10? The limit is 22 more (34 total), so why are we aiming for a total of 22 total?
Maybe it's that we're at 12 above the previous 12 (so at 24 total) and the school has left it up to the baseball program to find for money for the last 10? That would make a little more sense?
Maybe I've made this confusing. There are only 12 fully funded scholarships. Meaning they can spilt the money up between the players. Does that make more sense? They need to get 10 more fully funded scholarships. Sorry if I'm not saying this correctly.
I mean up until the beginning of this school year, that was the NCAA rule. That's how it's always been (since the mid 70s I believe). That's how every single college team had to operate. 11.7 (rounded up to 12 when most people talk about it) scholarships which had to be divided between the entire roster (which is why "full rides" were basically unheard of in baseball). It's why there's a popular college baseball site called "11point7." This is the first season that they've raised the limit to 34.
I know CDH was one of the ones (as was pretty much every big program NCAA coach) against that rule. He spoke out about it. So that makes it extremely hard for me to believe that the NCAA FINALLY gets rid of the rule and Danny leaves and for some reason we don't increase our scholarships.
I also don't know how we would be able to keep all of the talent we have AND bring in the two stud pitchers that we got when for sure the other big schools in the conference have increased their scholarships.
Like I said earlier, I also can't imagine Ramsey staying knowing that the school isn't going to commit more than basically the minimum to the baseball program.
