I highly doubt we're only funding 12 baseball scholarships when there is no limit anymore (which coincidentally I guess was 11.7 -> 12). In the grand scheme of things 22 additional scholarships is not a lot of money. There's no chance we're not taking full advantage of being able to do 34 starting this season. I don't think Ramsey would've taken the job if that was the case - and I wouldn't have blamed him. Mid-majors are likely the only programs not fully funding the 34 scholarships now.

We also get a large discount because we pull so heavily from in state and MOST of these kids will come in with HOPE.
The new rules allow for up to 34 scholarships. However, I don’t think anybody is giving out 34 full scholarships. Heck, even when it just 12 (11.7), I don’t think many were getting full scholarships. You probably offer a kid a scholarship (partial funding), and then the rest would be used for NIL money.

This (the 11.7 rule) had been a point of heavy contention for forever (long before I was getting ready to go to college in the early 2000s even). Sure, some smaller schools may not have been utilizing the 11.7. However, any school with any kind of athletic budget was using the full 11.7 allotment. There wouldn't have been a fuss and thus a change if that wasn't the case. You are correct essentially no baseball kids were kidding full (athletic) scholarships, but that was BECAUSE OF the 11.7 rule. You had to split the 11.7 scholarships among your entire roster. Now that you are allowed the full 34, the only real hurdle for most large conference schools is going to be Title IX.

FWIW 26 of our 36 kids are from Georgia and likely get HOPE.

We got two of the top high school arms to make it to college this season ... thus why I've been angry about how we've been using them.
I COMPLETELY agree with you and sincerely hope that changes QUICKLY. You have to expect college freshmen to go through a learning curve. otherwise just stick to recruiting portal transfers (like Loy).

It's fine with me if you choose not to believe me. I can tell you 100% that there are only 12 funded scholarships. It is necessary for Tech to find funding for another 10. I was at a baseball game around a month ago and overhead some donors talking. What I gathered was there was a meeting regarding the scholarship problem. Ten days ago I was told the same thing. After tonight I will have more information.

Maybe I've made this confusing. There are only 12 fully funded scholarships. Meaning they can spilt the money up between the players. Does that make more sense? They need to get 10 more fully funded scholarships. Sorry if I'm not saying this correctly.

Shame on us if that's true. We're spending Tex's money on the wrong things. If it were a Title IX issue that'd make more sense.

I also don't really understand what you're saying that it's necessary for Tech to find funding for another 10. Tech is funding the 12. Are you saying that it's up to the baseball program specifically to find funding for another 10. And if that's true, why 10? The limit is 22 more (34 total), so why are we aiming for a total of 22 total?

Maybe it's that we're at 12 above the previous 12 (so at 24 total) and the school has left it up to the baseball program to find for money for the last 10? That would make a little more sense?

I mean up until the beginning of this school year, that was the NCAA rule. That's how it's always been (since the mid 70s I believe). That's how every single college team had to operate. 11.7 (rounded up to 12 when most people talk about it) scholarships which had to be divided between the entire roster (which is why "full rides" were basically unheard of in baseball). It's why there's a popular college baseball site called "11point7." This is the first season that they've raised the limit to 34.

I know CDH was one of the ones (as was pretty much every big program NCAA coach) against that rule. He spoke out about it. So that makes it extremely hard for me to believe that the NCAA FINALLY gets rid of the rule and Danny leaves and for some reason we don't increase our scholarships.

I also don't know how we would be able to keep all of the talent we have AND bring in the two stud pitchers that we got when for sure the other big schools in the conference have increased their scholarships.

Like I said earlier, I also can't imagine Ramsey staying knowing that the school isn't going to commit more than basically the minimum to the baseball program.

Every Monday at Hudson Grill on Roswell Road there is a noon lunch for Georgia Tech alum and fans. The Pitching Coach and assistant were the speakers at a lunch about 1 month ago. That is where the information initially came from. Said most of the competing schools had (around) 10 more. Then I over heard this gentleman talking about a meeting to increase the scholarships (at a baseball game). I do know now the AA is working on funding. Maybe I will have more information tonight.

Wow. 10 more scholarships gets us to 22. At $30k per, that's $300k. We've got 34 homes games and average attendance of about 2k. Ticket prices have to rise about $5 a peice to make that expense work or we got to start packing the stands. Or find a generous donor.

I realize these are rough calculations, but it puts it perspective. But as Decatur pointed out, a lot of the guys coming from Georgia get the hope scholarship. And even if they aren’t wizz kids coming out of high school, I am willing to bet they are getting some academic scholarships. So we also need to factor all that into how much we actually need to raise. Not saying we don’t need to be more invested

Auburn got run-ruled. Texas losing. Arkansas losing. UVA goes down to BC. Good day for a ranked win.

BC starting to look like a tougher series to end the season on.

Sittin' pretty and #20 in RPI. We cracked the top 20!!

It's still a little bit early to be paying a lot of attention to these things, but we're getting there.

KPI we are at #12. Last season, of the 16 hosts, only one (Southern Miss) was not top 15 in either RPI or KPI.**** I still wonder how on earth Southern Miss got a host site. Thankfully Miami righted that wrong, though too late to help us out.

**** I should note that this was because the 16 host sites were nearly verbatim chosen by RPI. Southern Miss was the only exception, and it wasn't because they had a strong KPI. They were lower in KPI than they were in RPI. (19 RPI, 28 KPI).
