Advincular was a highly rated SS in high school and I read where LSU and Arkansas were interested in him playing short for them. Is it reasonable to assume that he will be considered at SS with Kerce at second, or is Kerce a shoo-in for SS? I know Kerce has a great arm for the left side of the infield and not sure about Jarren.

I think everything is an open competition on this team. I wouldn't be surprised with anything. If Mitchell makes it to campus, he'll be in the competition too.

Regarding high school ranks, neither Carson, nor Jarren were primo prospects, but Carson was ranked significantly higher (SS68 vs SS122).

I don't have a Perfect Game Premium account, so I can't see Mitchell's (only past classes are free), but I'm pretty sure he's a top 100 player overall, so probably a top 20 or so SS at worst. He'd probably have to really show out to win the job though.

I fully expect to see Carson at SS and Jarren at 2B, but again nothing would surprise me.

A friend of mine is an avid LSU fan. He texted me last night that we had picked up a shortstop that they were after and was referring to Jarren.

Mitchell is ranked 84th overall in the country. Would love to get him to campus. Listening to Ramsey he really understands how to sell everything at Tech and wouldn’t be surprised if Mitchell ended up at Tech.

He's the 55th ranked draft prospect (including college and hs) according to mlb.com. If he does in the first few rounds, it's gonna be hard to get him here.

That being said, Derek Dietrich was drafted early in the 3rd I believe and we got him to campus. I know there's a few others in the past 10-15 years (hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago when Dietrich was drafted), but more that go that end up on campus though.

If as low as third round MLB draft, a player may make more NIL and have a better life in a college while majoring and developing in baseball. At any college.

I suppose. I'm not sure the NIL in baseball is really all that significant though unless you're Tommy Tanks or Paul Skenes.

There's always the chance that pro ball isn't there for a kid after a few years of college too. Takes a lot of confidence and betting on yourself to pass up being drafted in the early rounds. Drew did it though (making it known that if he wasn't drafted in the first X picks he wasn't going to sign) and it's worked out for him.

Do we know what Drew's making in NIL?

Randomly looked in on the On3 portal page and saw a new addition to our list ... I haven't seen Chicoli's name listed anywhere else. I don't see anything on his Twitter (X, whatever), which is usually the first thing these kids do.

Also though David Shouse is Connor Shouse's dad. Me wonders if they put the wrong Connor down? They also haven't updated to show Evans to GA State, which happened a while back now.

On the Shouse front though:

On3 also doesn't have us in the top 50 portal teams? Maybe On3 just isn't the place for the baseball portal the way it is for other sports.

Edit: they also only show Clemson with 3 transfers coming in, which is way off, so maybe it's just not up to date either.

That hurts. One step forward, one step backwards….

Meh. It does, and we definitely need pitching, but as pointed out above there's other guys. Chicoli was pretty good and he got the most opportunity (and obviously I hate to lose him), but I like some of the other young guys too AND I'm fully confident Ramsey has a couple of guys he's still trying to get.

Focus on the positive. We've got the top transfer 2B and the third ranked transfer 3B coming in. Not to mention, a top 70 2024 recruit and a guy that looks like he could be our next closer (and first real closer since Busse's first year).

I don’t get the Chicole move especially on the last day of portal entries

I mean, if Paden is back somehow I get it - there wouldn't be a weekend spot "open." However, I'm pretty sure Paden is out of eligibility. It's at least somewhat murky though with his injuries and some people have insisted that he has another year.

If Paden is gone (and I think he is), the only thing that I can think is that Ramsey has a guy or two he's trying to bring in and wouldn't guarantee Chilcoli a weekend spot. There's always a chance he still comes back though.

Nate Taylor would be a weekend guy immediately. I think we land him
