Apparently some ugag fans wanted to throw off in Game 1 too. Mind you LIU is one of the top scoring teams in the country. 5th in the country at 9.1 RPG to be exact.

I stand by my plan to start Tate, have him get through top 1 in <10 pitches, we score 12 in the bottom of the inning, then take him out to have him ready to go Sunday.

If this is not also Coach Ramsey’s plan then I have to assume he’s an idiot.

I know you're being tongue in check, but I've actually been thinking somewhat along the same line. Start Tate on Friday. If we are up 12+ runs by the 3rd inning pull Tate and let Underwood finish the game from there. That way Tate is available for an "if necessary" game on Monday. If the game is closer, then ride Tate for as long as possible, best case scenario being a 7-inning run rule complete game. Either way, minimal use of the bullpen so we are full strength for Saturday and Sunday games. But no matter what don't mess around and drop game 1; Tate starts and pitches for as long as needed to ensure we stay on the winner's bracket side.

No run rule in the NCAA tourney

Agreed. While I don’t think things will play out exactly how I laid out, with our offense it wouldn’t be surprising at all if things do get out of hand early. I’m sure they’ve got all the different scenarios planned out for tomorrow

can you or anyone else explain the thinking behind this? I think the benefits (especially keeping games on schedule) far outweigh the cons. Thx.
College baseball games are 9 inning affairs. This is the big championship. I doubt 10 run games will occur much.

If we found ourselves down by 10 ... I'd want to force the opponent to get all 27 outs.

Keeping 2 games per day on schedule isn't enough to move the needle.

I see your argument as a GT fan here. The other thing I think that argues for it besides scheduling is this. As a coach, I don't want to waste arms or risk injury to players in an 18 -1 game. No matter which side of the score I am on.

Well... a coach in lopsided games always has options deep in the bullpen to not waste arms.
