Thought this was an interesting article.


Basically Nick Marsh showed up at practice with gold cleats and apparently Cignetti was not amused and read him the riot act.
I feel like that is something CBK would do as well.

Sorry, I read the article. Still don't understand. Why does Nick Marsh wearing gold cleats make Cignetti angry?

My guess is that gold cleats say “look at ME” and therefore are perceived as the opposite of team. I personally don’t care one way or the other but if I was a coach that might be a way of looking at it.

My interpretation of the coach's fury is that adorning oneself with gold is an expression of "I have made it." Since, as George O'Leary liked to say, "you only get better or worse. You don't stay the same," coaches want players with the mindset to be working hard to improve every day. They certainly don't want a player coming into the first day of a new football year with an "I have made it" attitude.

This is it. Today’s athletic environment is very permissive. This can be very destructive to team. Cignetti is building a team.
