I have. He could be a good OLB/ rush end. But he has a higher ceiling at TE and should be an offensive mismatch. So, potentially an elite TE.
You may turn out to be right. But that is not what I saw from his tape.

I have assumed the only reason he is listed as a TE is because he would only give us a commitment if we agreed to play him there.

He is a big, fluid athlete with WR speed and great ball skills( you can tell from baseball. Elite hitters like him have to have great hand eye coordination)- and he is tough.
There is such a position for that size and ability--LINEBACKER.

GT Roster says Roche is 6’9. Assuming thats true, a fade route would be fun, but imagine us lining up in a goalline formation with him on end. Then before the snap have him motion out as a receiver for a fade route. Would be a fun little surprise and put a line backer in a tough spot.

I was begging for this play the entire season last year. Or a personnel group that included Roche and Knowles as receiver/TE. The OC had no imagination in this way. He went with "lets put the 5'9" speedster out wide and see if he can burn them deep from the three on 3rd and goal."

Per the reports on the scrimmage this past Saturday, Gavin Harris was great. Caught 2 TD passes (from Mendoza) and just looked big time. Excited to potentially see a real TE upgrade (from last year) on the field in 2026.

The staff saw him in the State championship game against Buster's son's team and offered him as TE the next week. I believe most schools were recruiting him as a TE, despite what his tape might have shown. But who knows, guys get moved around all the time.

We were. Petty and McKenney were out, two of our more studly OT prospects.

One thing...we are having to replace our G-C-G from last year. I liked that the coaches were positive at Ionata at C, and Carney sliding inside figures to bolster one guard spot. If Riggs can keep developing at the Carney's old spot and McKenny can hold down the other tackle, perhaps with Petty rotating in, that just leaves the other guard spot. Peay seems like perhaps the leader there.

IMO the OL was and still is the biggest question mark. While it's a work in progress what we are hearing is a lot better than "no one is seizing the center position" or "it may be until camp before we find an OT". We have a lot of work to do, but it doesn't seem out of the question we could end up being decent on the OL.

Key said in his 680 the Fan interview yesterday Petty will probably miss the first few games because of the Bowl injury. If he doesn't play after that, I think you may be right.
He’s not going to play a significant role regardless. He needed a year to get his strength up and he will now be missing out on that.

Agree. He was undersized last year. They may bring him along slowly, let him build up strength and mass, and possibly play 4 games towards the back half of the season to get him some live reps but preserve a year of eligibility to redshirt.

Late season injuries are tough.
