Have you ever randomly met any GT athletes/coaches?

Has anyone bet Tommy Taylor? We have our own GT Legend on the Swarm. Or maybe he is actually an AI generated Bot? Unless someone has met him and can verify his identity who knows.

I ran into former GT MBB center, James Munlyn, at a burger joint in John’s Creek about 10 years ago. He saw my GT jacket and commented to me about it, and I recognized him immediately. We sat down and ate lunch and talked about the 1990 season, and he caught me up on the guys he knew of from that team. Very fun, totally chance, encounter.
James "Mad Dog" Munlyn. One of the nicest players I ever encountered.

Met him in Knoxville during the 1990 NCAA tournament run - I was 12 and my sister was 13, and we were staying at the same hotel as the team. I was at breakfast one morning and someone stood at the buffet next to me and I glanced over and realized that their hipbones were about as high as my head. It was James Munlyn, and he was about as cool as you could be when some pre-teen kids want to talk to you. Funny as all getout.

Meet Ish Muhammad at a basketball camp one year...on the baseline...in the air...as he dunked on me.

Fast forward a few years, watching a GT game at a bar when he dunked OVER the NC State player. Buddy asked what would I do if someone did that me. I replied with, "sit in a bar a few years later and cheer for him when he did it against NC State."
I feel you on that he we played him in high-school for three years. I got him one or twice but he got me more than that. Played against him in aau basketball. Played with key fox he was a really good athlete too.

Another story about my time at Chastian Park/NYO, my last year playing hoops there Matt Harpring's daughter Katie was on our team and Matt and my mom co-coached the team. It was awesome. His daughter's a baller too. I ran into Matt last year at the Woodward vs Marist football game.
Kate Harpring may be the best athlete in her family.

Funny Key Fox story, after a night game we stuck around with friends to keep tailgating. Walking back to my car, Key Fox goes right in front of me on this tiny BMX bicycle - in my memory his knees were up my his shoulders. I yell “Hell yeah, Key Fox” and he gives me a thumbs up.

I’ve got a few good ones I’ll share.

I was at Tech from ‘92-‘97, and we had a few football players and baseball players in the fraternity. Jay Payton was in my FASET group.

A bunch of the guys on the baseball team lived in those three story townhouses on Bellemeade - 12 guys total. We went to a party over there and my buddy introduced me to “our All-Conference, All-American catcher Jason Varitek.” Varitek rolls his eyes and says, “I’m Jason, how’s it going?” and shakes my hand. He was a nice guy, down to earth. Most of those baseball players were like that, pretty chill.

I did go to a bachelor party weekend for one of those players at Reynolds Plantation, and Brad Rigby came. It was cool to hear about life in the big leagues, and how those Oakland A’s players got those huge biceps.

Had the honor of meeting the late great Wade Mitchell at a Golf Course in Hampton, Georgia. I also sat next to and talked at length with the great Leon Hardeman while watching a spring practice session back during the Chan Gailey era.

Go Jackets!

Circa 1995 I was staying at the Peabody while on a business trip to Memphis and ran into Pepper Rodgers at the lobby bar. We shared a couple of libations, had a good conversation and a few laughs. He was one of a kind.

Met Tashard Choice in the Atlanta airport. He gave me a nod for my Buffalo Bills hoody. Ended up briefly talking and he said he loved his time in Buffalo and I told him that I loved him when we were at Tech.

12/10 great man

I met Bobby Cremins in the 1980's when I was working at a Kroger in HS.

I ran into Bill O'Brien at the Marriott Marquis one afternoon.

Not a GT coach but I once ran into Tom Izzo in the Peachtree Center food court (would have been when Gregory was the BB coach as I remember making a crack that he needed to leave a few recruits in Atlanta for Gregory).

I was going up into a doctor's office at Piedmont Hospital & Bobby Cremins walked into the elevator with one of his players ...Super nice & friendly!
Ran into him outside Mercedes Benz Stadium before game a couple or three years ago and got a picture with him.

When I was a senior in the ‘80’s I waited tables at a small and expensive French restaurant on Collier Road. I was off one Friday when the phone rang. The owner asked me if I wanted to wait on Bill Currey. Of course I got dressed and went in. It was his daughter’s birthday.

Another time when I was in school I was playing golf at Bobby Jones and snuck over to the tennis center to hit the bathroom. Sitting in the lounge area was Bobby Dodd.

Couple of stories to share here...

I grew up in the same town that Scott Blair and his family are from. My stepmom knew how big of a Tech fan I am and before she and my father married, she lived next door to the Blair's. Well little to my knowledge, but she had arranged for us to meet them at the local Dairy Queen and I got to meet Scott Blair! I was pretty young at the time, but I had a blast getting to talk to him and his family. Super down to earth people and very friendly to speak with.

Secondly, was at the Vanderbilt-GT football game at Tech a couple years back and was given tickets to sit in the gold seats. Me and my then fiancée sat down and the usuals were greeting each other and having a good time. Lo and behold a man shorter than I with a white towel draped over his shoulder stopped and asked me a question and I gave him an answer and we went back to enjoying the game. It never crossed my mind till later that it was Joe Hamilton! I've since kicked myself for not talking more to him or get an autograph or picture.....
I ran into Joe Hamilton at the Waffle House House in Union City a few years ago. My son had just got back from Iraq. Joe gushed over him being a hero.

Went to the Puerto Rico Tipoff in 2009. Hailed a cab at the hotel to the arena and then saw Ish Muhammad trying to get a cab. Let him jump in and ride with.

Randomly saw Travis Best at the Waffle House in Brookhaven maybe 10 years ago.

Last random encounter was when I was buying a house in 2004. Was looking at a house in Lenox Park and noticed huge sneakers by the front door when we went in. Later figured out it was Dennis Scott's house, never saw him though.

I once saw John Salley, ~1985, walking toward the Burger King on West Campus. I said, "The Burger King is closed, Spider."

(I, of course, didn't know him to call him that, but that's what people called him, and it just came out.)

He replied, "You ain't shifting (oslt) me, are you?"

Brush with greatness!

I also used to see Noodles all the time at the pool tables in the student center next to the card tables where I played Bridge and Hearts.

I once watched Ivano Newbill sit on the end of one of those pool tables and clean out the corner pockets at the other end. He did have to lean over a little bit.
