So Mendoza did a meet & greet at the baseball
game last night.
We lost after winning our first 8 games.
Gotta be a bad omen for him, right?
🙂🙂

You may have guessed, or you may not care, but IMHO this was entirely inappropriate. If I were one of the other QB’s I’d be asking coaches Wienke, Godsey, and Key some hard questions right about now… unless they have a meet and greet set up for all of us. This just smacks of favoritism and predetermination. I hope for the better, but not expecting such.

Or he's just a guy on the football team who chose to go to a baseball game and did a time where he interacted with fans and there was nothing stopping the others from doing it?

It's an NIL thing, but I hate the optics of **** like this.

Or was it prearranged by the AA department with the quiet consent of Key?
It was announced prior to the game.
As someone noted, seems to be NIL-related but it's also a way to sell a few more baseball tickets. Mendoza has name recognition among more casual fans, the other 3 QBs really don't.

As noted in this thread, probably tied to his NIL deal. But it's also a way to sell a few more baseball tickets.

He's new to the program. Knowles and Adamson have been accessible to the fans through Fan Day and other activities in the past. This is the first time he's on campus and his name recognition adds some hype to the upcoming Spring Practice. I think people are reading way too much into this. I feel confident that Knowles, Adamson, and Bergeron have all been told that they will have an opportunity to win the starting position the same way Mendoza has been. It's Marketing 101; strike while the iron is hot.

It does feel like they are giving him the starting job. Hopefully they know what they are doing - I think they do, but it doesn't seem wise.

There are a lot of other guys (some will have huge roles on the the team) that are new to the program also. Was our new running back there? How about the new tight ends? The new D-linemen? Were they part of the meet and greet also? If so....maybe the media has twisted the story. If not, I hope they have similar meet and greet for each of the new players. This could have some negative consequences if not balanced appropriately.

GTAA game day activities are contracted out to Legends, Inc, as well as ticket sales. The idea probably did not originate from the QB coach, because he likely understands that one potential QB should be should not singled out at this point in the year. I remember when national #1 QB Charlie Dudish was lauded with high expectations as a freshman and flopped as a sophomore.

Legends is a marketing company and it sounds like the idea was a marketing ploy for baseball game day activities so draw in more ticket buyers from the football fan sector that do not routinely attend baseball games. Same technique was done for last year's QB at the basketball game, the announcement ending with link to ticket sales.

Let’s be real…no other new player, other the Justice Haynes, will have the draw. If this is connected to NIL, then I guess it has to do with whatever the various agreements call for.

It certainly would not surprise me if there aren’t additional meet n greets at baseball games for other new players too. I could see the GT fans being interested in meeting the other new players.

It may have been a test case to see how successful it would be. Personally, I think people read way too much into things.

Is this what happened, or was it the NIL thing as has been said above? I dunno.

If so, why not all the QB's in the room? I don't know anything about the "event," but it just doesn't sound like a great idea to me. Key is on record that Mendoza was brought in to compete with the others in the QB room for the job. This can backfire if he wins the job with folks pointing to this event and calling into doubt Key's statement. He doesn't need that headache. Nor does Mendoza, for that matter.

If he got paid (nil) then not a good look. If he did it “gratis”, then that’s different.

I hope that him attending a baseball game is not an indication that he has been awarded the starting job in his NIL contract, in remembrance of the Jeff Sims fiasco. But I don't discount that possibility either at this stage.
